Just added a EA Post hole digger to the collection

Going to be using it for the first time this weekend at my TN land. Need to get a barrier gate and some split rail fence up.

Any tips on using this thing? I have watched the EA video several times. Looks the hardest part may be keepng the auger perpendicular to the ground when you first start drilling

If there is going to be rocks and roots around, bring a big (3-4') pipe wrench in case you screw it too far in the ground. Or make darn sure to take small bites, raise and lower it lots of time until you get a feel for it. I still needed to unscrew it one time...

I have used one to put hundreds of posts in. Rocks will send it off course, so make sure you have a hand operated post hole digger handy. My advice is trial and error. The more you use it the better you will get. Good luck. Make sure no one is near it while it is spinning. Oh ya when I dig holes I idle the tractor at about 1100-1200 rpm. It is not a race to dig holes

Thanks, I was wondering what the best rpm range was. The trusty hand PHD's are already packed in the back of the truck, along with a digging bar.

"Not a race" is good advice! Slower means less stress on everything- don't ran your tractor at 540 RPM PTO speed! You will want a little angle to begin with (auger's tip a little further back than simply vertical) since the arc of the PHD coming down will straighten it out to vertical. Rear wheels need to be close to level, or the hole will tilt.
