2310d 4wd problem

According to pictures that's the factory part. If not readily found I would heat, straighten, re-heat red hot and quench in water to harden, (test with file). If you break it after that shame on you.

In my opinion trying to force one of these in or out of 4 wheel drive when gears are not aligned or in a bind is what caused the bending. If gears are aligned and not in a bind movement should take very little push.

Looks like they are listed from $40 to $100. Not sure which yours uses. Normde is telling you the right way in replacing it but cheap skate me would straighten and if satisfied I would reuse it. Not the correct way, just my way.

After taking a second look at your pictures I am wondering if the the round part the block slides over is in good condition? Picture makes it look sort of flat. Does the block fit on it ok without excess wobble?

good questions

The photo also makes me wonder if the lever was a little long to begin with ,( or shaft was to short),
and it was bent- so as to engage when actuated.

Maybe I am wrong ,but to bend that bar would take a fair amount of force... Bending it straight may make it jam up or possibly align in a way that prohibits smooth shifting or doesn't engage at all.

Can the actuation be seen some way when installed -before (modifying) the lever.

There's absolutely no way that was bent up in the Tractor without breaking something else and not showing prior damage or replaced Parts/Part. It was RIGGED like that to make it fit and work. IMHO. Apparently with no word our US parts suppliers Hoye, Fredricks don't even have a used one.

YOU NEED A SHIFT ARM. Carey is right, the wrong arm, (shaft too short), was installed, and the user had to bend it to make the bushing sort of line up with the slot. If you straighten it, it will not work at all. I doubt there is a salvage YM2310D around.
If you have a parts book, I would suggest searching by part # on Google, Ebay, Yanmar Authorized Parts Dealers, JD, and Japanese salvage yards.

Unfortunately Aaron had them take apart the drop box from all 3 2310d's they had on the lot that are parts tractors and there is not one of these "front shift levers" to be had. The parts for my other repair are coming tomorrow so I can get that fixed and put back together.

I have the collar and seal coming for the drop box....guess I may have to try and improve my "ghetto rigging" and see if that piece will work. I'll have to burn the seal and collar anyway to reattach drop box and fill with fluid to use the tractor in 2wd. I guess worst case scenerio I take the 4wd axle off and keep using it in 2wd. I'm going to scour the internet tonight after mowing to see if I can find one somewhere.

On a bright note, they did in fact have an actual English 2310d parts manual so I ordered one of them also.

Any thoughts on where a person might look other than searching around online? Fredrickson's comes to mind, but they wanted $1200 for the axle shaft....

If you have the parts manual you can google the part number and might find something. Also, Southern Global might be worth trying. Southern Global

I know I am in the minority but not sure the one you have isn't factory. Doesn't look "ghetto rigged" to me, just bent.

If that thing is irreplaceable I wonder if you could straighten it then weld a stiffener fin down the back side to keep it aligned better. (Post #3 in this thread looks bent and possibly repair-welded, compared to post #4).

This guy may give you some good advice in trying to find one. gaautoparts.com
He came through on a used shifter arm not long ago so maybe worth checking with him. He's legit. and here's His CL. add that's posted often Yanmar Tractor parts assorted
I posted you wasn't going to find one a week ago. There's some ingenuity I've done that I'm not proud of doing but sometimes you have to do what it takes to make it work correctly. I even have a better description of the way that was done.

I think that's the fellow that helped me replace a sheared off shift-lever. He was fair and sent me what I needed. He's certainly a possible source. Basically someone on here, I think careyo63, spotted the add and alerted me to it. Looking over the photos on his CL add I could see the part I needed. He removed it from his parts tractor and sent it to me. Certainly worth a try.
