2011 KUBOTA L3200 W/ LOADER, BH77 BACKHOE
O.K.....so I went to my local Kubota dealer to get my air filter, oil filter and hydraulic filter for the 400 to 500 hour servicing of my L3200 and the parts guy asked me "do you want the inner and outter air filter....or just the outter?" I looked at him as if he had just taken a hit of crack cocaine and told him I didn't know there were two. He said "yes...it shows two filters on your tractor". I told him mine only came with 1 air filter. He told me that the inner filter slips inside the outter filter, so I ended up buying both. Back at home, I took my old air filter off and compared it to the new filter. They were the same. I then took the new inner filter and slipped it inside the new outter filter and it fit like a glove, however it was tricky getting the two of them into the housing and putting the end cover back on, but after some wiggling...it fit. My question is this........did I just buy an unnecessary second filter? My L3200 did not come with two, only one. Now it has two and I feel like I was just duped!!!!:confused2:

Probably was supposed to have 2 filters, it's pretty common. Probably just a mix up at the factory or on a dealer lot and the tractor was delivered less the secondary air filter for some reason.

The L3200's only come from the factory with the outer air filter only, the inner filter is available for additional protection in "dusty" conditions. I always recommend using both filters, other than cost, there is no draw back. However, do not assemble the filters outside the housing. It is best to install the inner (it should slip inside the inner ring inside the air filter housing if I remember right) and then install the outer filter as normal.

What Texas Fella said, Grand L and M come with bother, be very careful with the inner filter, I believe you change it less often as well as cleaning is different I believe.

also in regards to the inner (smaller) filter, i've read avoid handling the element itself, just the outer housing for some reason. from what i understand, the inner is basically there as precautionary should the outer fail for some reason....if the outer is in good shape, the inner really should not be getting dirty at all....
to me it's added security for a small price
