Cost to Survey 80 Acres

I'm a land surveyor and the OP has a very fair price for the survey assuming it will be good work. Unless I had surveyed recently, it would probably be more.

I always see some scary comments in these threads about using your phone or some kind of aerial map. The people that say this is unrealable are correct. There just isn't a short cut or a do it yourself method.

And even if there were, that method would not come with a professional's stamp which anyone with any awareness would require.

The surveyor just completed the work. He did an excellent job and now I know exactly where the boundaries are. There was more woods on the west side of the property than I thought, so that was a bonus. Now to get some fence posts to replace the lath once we close on the property.

He should have put some pins in the ground at each corner in addition to the wooden lath with flags. It is always a good idea to additionally mark the pins though because they are flush or sometimes a bit below grade level and are hard to find without a metal detector if no other markers are put in.

He did place pins and I plan on marking those with fence posts too. The re-bar does tend to disappear if not marked...

And also put some pins offset on your side of the land that you can reference off from in case you have or get neighbors that think it's ok to move pins.

That's been complained about a few times on TBN.

That sounds like sound advice.

I put 5' posts with white paint up every 50' and used a 6' post marked with blue and white paint on the corners.

So what did it cost?

It cost $1,650 just as was quoted. I did not need an ALTA survey so it was probably a bit cheaper than it might have otherwise been.
