Good gravy. It is April. 2.5 inches of lake effect snow. Never thought I'd be thinking of getting the tractor out to remove snow this time of year. Guess we won't get the ground tilled just yet.

Just 2.5 inches! When I was in college in W. Lafayette, we got 2.5 feet.

I know. It was beautiful this morning. The ground all white with the green grass poking through!

We've had snow here in central Va this time of year. Luckily not now, but we're supposed to have a hard freeze. I drained all my rain tanks and barrels and put row covers over my peas that are about 6" high.

We got a good dusting earlier this morning - 7ish, and a couple heavy snow showers around 10. Melted quick. Still unusual for April 9.

In southern Ohio I was mowing grass when the snow began. Minor accumulation in grassy areas

One of the few snows we had when I was a kid didn't melt from beneath the trees until I think March maybe April and that was down here in Dixie. It was a colder time.

Yeah it got warm enough in the afternoon that all the snow melted. Today we are getting that ever popular "winter mix". Just how far forward did we push spring with the "spring forward" time change?

I was out working on my barn yesterday and all of a sudden the sky started puking down graupel -- small snowballs, like sleet but soft. Never seen that in VA before, had only ever seen it in the mountains out west. It did that for a good 5-6 minutes under a dark sky, and then cleared up. We had 25-40mph winds all day yesterday, making it a raw day to work outside. Last night we hit 26F. Today will be 56F with no wind, which will be a welcome warmup for working outdoors. That wind wore me out yesterday.
