Anyone ever pour a patio or walkway and dye and stamp it? Seems pretty straight foward from my research so far.

Second question... I want to pour a 16x12 in my back yard. I dont want to back a truck in there.. Should I / could I order a truck and haul with my fel on my subcompact? Rent a cement mixer?

i've seen the results of a stampted and died patio they look great when done by a pro. Personaly, I would probably never try to do that without the help of someone who knows what they are doing. If that doesn't go well you have a whole lot of concrete to get rid of or worse, a patio that is ugly you get to look at for years. I am a do it yourselfer on many things.. just not concrete that is adding to the value of my house (or subtracting from the value). Pole barn floors are another thing... not as big a deal.

Don't mean to be a downer.. maybe you are more talented so if you do it and it works out, post pics and tips.

I hear ya... Come on.. A few yards of concrete, some pigment, molds/stamps and some mold release.... What could go wrong!?

I agree there seem to be a lot of variables on this project. Whether i hire or diy i will post pics.

You missed a bunch of steps. First concrete gets hard quick. NO time to dilly dally around. When doing stamped colored concrete you need to pour at a 3 slump. NO soupier. One must also cover everything in sight before starting including the side of ones house. The release agent is quite messy and will stain most sidings. Rent the stamps from WHOM????? Putting the color on is not bad but get enough on. Then stamp......remember all the tools necessary.....hand tamper - needed as the concrete gets harder, joint tools to make the joints between stamps look seamless. Remember you are adding DRY colorant and release agent - this helps set the concrete quicker. Don't forget the 6 mill poly under the slab----even outside to help control concrete set time.
You can save one step by getting the concrete company to color it in the mixer. But generally we would use at least two colors and then a different colored release agent to get our desired look. After the pour and a couple days later, one must wash the slab to desired colored combo. Too much wash and you lose the desired effect. Not enough and the release will slowly come off. Don't forget the sealer a day or two after you have washed it off.
Don't walk on it or let pets walk on it until sealed. Foot prints will show.

YEP easy peasy.......go for it. If it doesn't turn out the first time, try again. Concrete is cheap in comparison.

we did this a number of years ago around our church about 600 feet long and about 8 foot wide

we used a system like this company, Noble Coat on Quick Imprint Rolled Concrete | Quick Imprint Systems LLC

I made the roller out of a light pipe about 10" across and 3 feet long, and used 3/8" rebar welded on the pipe and put two ends and a pipe for a axle and a handle on it,

looks nearly like the ones on the web site, nearly after pouring it and screeding it one bull floating we stretched a thin plastic sheet over the concrete, and rolled it.

watch there video Watch Our Video | Quick Imprint Systems LLC

the town had a pigment mixed in the concrete for some new side walks, talk to the ready mix company about it, when I did some concrete coloring we used Davis pigments, Davis Colors - We make the pigments that color concrete. Find your color using our interactive Color Card or design one of your own. Local suppliers are located nationwide.

I suggest you consider small pavers. Save the concrete form money and do it at your own pace. You can load the pavers in your fel bucket to transport. That way you have the real deal instead of a fake brick look.

I should add that pavers and polymeric sand for the cracks should run about $450 plus tax.

I was looking at doing stamped concrete a while back for my old house, the guy I talked to didn't recommend it for me. Said if you get cracks there's not much you can do, pavers are easy to replace if damaged.

Pavers or even natural stone all the way.

Around here there are some professionals who can put dow a stamped, dyed concrete that looks just like a big piece of exposed natural rock, but the dye job has varied colors, not just one mixed into the concrete, and the crew is skilled.

Depending on what look you want, I have seen 3/4 minus gravel laid down and compacted with a plate compactor into a very nice surface. With light foot traffic it could hold up for years.
