Stihl has 5 other successful Mtronic saws. If there is a problem with the 661 I am sure they can figure it out.
Preferably before they released it, took people's money, and caused some of them many losses and expenses dealing with the problems. I know guys that will never buy another Stihl after the way they have been messed around lately. It's a flagship, pro saw and they screwed it up to the point it is costing them customers no amount of grovelling or marketing will ever win back.

Part of the premium paid for Stihl gear is the perfectly reasonable expectation they have tested, tested, and tested again their saws, especially the pro saws, before release. For years now, there have been problems with this 661 model. It's not about perfection, just basic competence. Heads, if they haven't already, should roll amongst the designers/engineers/suppliers of or at Stihl. I pity the dealers having to clean up after this.

How about 'stuck in the middle without a clue'.

Haha. SR has probably been called worse things but I'd wager the jury is still out on whether or not clueless is one of 'em. I mean, anybody with a tractor, winch, log forks with grab, sawmill and splitter are probably not clueless...hmmm...come to think of it, that's me too and for sure I've been called clueless so maybe the shoe fits SR also?

No probably not. I have a lot of respect for Rob based on what I've seen. Hope he takes it as funny.

Hazards to the left of me, leaners to the right, here I am; stuck in the middle with yew (brain fade on what else would rhyme with 'you')
Man, you really "dated" your self with that song!! lol

Here's a pict. AFTER we took some of the "hazards" out,

We are working to the right of the pict., so there's a few tops i'll have to winch out to get to the next tree, and here it is!

and it's a big one! There will be a LOT of firewood in this one,

Here's a bit of what I skidded out yesterday,

Dad used to play it all the time when we kids were growing up. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Nice work on the ugly patch. They always remind me of a quote I read on another forum "don't ever cut faster than you can think". De-constructing those tangled messes safely is like solving a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

I'm gonna say, that's as good a story as any! lol

Thought maybe you'd like to see my "wood hauler" for wet ground!

standard.jpg

It will float over some fairly soft ground and the "walking beam" on the trailer with huge tires, works pretty good in soft ground too. I'm leaving the "hydraulic" back gate, but I'll torch off everything behind it,

standard.jpg

It has a HUGE box on it and it self unloads! So, it will be GREAT for firewood, hauling one he!! of a load!

I have some friends that use a forage wagon for firewood. They have an opening in the wall and converted the feed chain to an electric motor with a switch in the building (a big farm shop). The boiler is just next to it and you just throw a switch and the wood comes to you. They have 1000+ ac. orchard and it's mostly small wood.
Nice spreader, I'd say worth somewhere around $3500+ in these parts, looks a bit too nice to cut up! (again, around here)

Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. I kinda dig how we are on opposite sides of the planet and have the same sort of gear (or in my case have been looking for deals on some of the gear you already own) and ideas on how to process wood. So, is it great minds thinking alike or fools seldom differing?

There has to be a feed-out wagon (not sure if that's what you call 'em up there) parked around the back of a shed cultivating grass having not been used for ages, somewhere on a farm here in NZ they will sell off cheap. The whole walking floor to support a splitter/processor option is exactly what I plan for it, but the ones I have seen here are too far away or too expensive.

And if I had a $ for every time I needed a dozer for building roads into the back of beyond to get wood out, I'd be able to afford one by now.

Please keep us informed on how the trailer/wagon works out. Thanks Rob.

It looks like one of the tires (RF) on the trailer isn't quite as "huge" as it should be...
