Ladders

I've been intrigued about these ladders for sometime and was checking out at Harbor Freight late last year when I saw a bunch of these;

17 Ft. Type 1A Multi-Task Ladder

Had a 20% coupon with me so walked out for under $120.

It is somewhat PIA to set up first time or two. I think small amount of space it takes to store is a plus over a conventional ladder.

I'm working on cleaning up ranch perimeter fence lines which are cedar posts, 5-strand barb wire and 5' hog fence. Once it dries up a bit I'm going to try using the HF Ladder, in inverted V, to climb over fence to clean other side.

I have one of the "made like" HD ones, I also have a 4', (2) 8' and a 10' step, a 20' aluminum and a 30' fiberglass extension. That folding one is the absolute last resort every time. Heavy, annoying, fussy about the ground it is placed on to get stable, etc. Much prefer the others. I've used a folding kitchen stool in preference over it. At least the fancy folding joint thingies work well in whatever position it is in. It's just all the rest of the behavior as a ladder I can't stand.

I have a Little Giant and find it very useful. It IS heavy but I need a ladder that will work on uneven ground. I bought it 34 years ago and its still as strong as the day I bought it. I've trusted this ladder to carry my weight (230 lbs) for over 30 years and its never let me down.

If you want a STRONG ladder that will last a lifetime - this is the one.

I have the 3 step Little Giant folding step ladder with handle and tray. It's heavy, expensive, but stable.

Amazon.com: Little Giant, 3 step, Aluminum, 2-1/4 Feet, 3 lb. Capacity Stepladder: Home Improvement

But my outdoor ladder is a Gorilla ladder than looks just like the Little Giant. As others have said, it's heavy, but strong. I use it trimming trees, cleaning rain gutters, and such. And like Rick said above, it's been handy in the inverted V to go back and forth over our chain link fence.

When we had to have a new roof after a hail storm a few years ago, I noticed the roofing crew was using a Little Giant ladder that "looked" as if it had been used a lot and put up wet.:laughing: But it was still strong.

I have 3 of the Home Depot variety, a 12' and 2-24' ones. I don't mind the weight or the setup. For me they are very stable, highly configurable and they don't move when you are up high on them, this is important for me as I get dizzy easily. They are not the perfect ladder for every need, but they work as intended.

I don't have one but thought about getting one. Clients have them and I've borrowed them a few times on different jobs. I doubt I will ever spend the money on one. They are heavy, slow to set up and not very comfortable to be on for very long. Most of the time that I'm on a ladder, I'm painting something. I like the slide on bucket that attaches to the top of some of my ladders. It holds a gallon of paint perfectly!!!

I found a 16' extension ladder on the side of the interstate. It has two "legs" on it that adjust to uneven ground. Just bounce it up and down a few times and it is adjusted. I would not trade that ladder for two without the adjusters. The ladder is light and stable. I weight 220+ and it handles me well. If all my ladders were stolen tonight that woulld be the first one I would replace, with one exactly like it. Ed

Werner heavy duty....great ladders. Little Giant .....great ladders. Depends on use. Little giant very versatile. I would not want to get in a fight with the pretty girl that they use to use for their commercials.......she must have been a body builder in her spare time......yes little giant very heavy.
