No more V8 in F150?

I'll keep my 7.3 Turbo diesel thank you. Sure, you can haul a big load with a weenie motor but will that weenie motor be around in 10 years, still hauling a heavy load? Time will tell but if past practice sets precident, it won't be.

If all this small motor big power crap were based in long term fact, then farm tractors would have 2 cylinder engines that made 100 pto. That ain't the case. Displacement and piston speed equals torque, not hairdryer pressure and that applies to gasoline engines as well. Why these new weenie motors need multispeed transmissions. Many speeds equal better torque multiplication, but that still don't equal longevity. I realize however, that vehicles are looked at as disposable today by many. Me, not included.

I'll take the sound of a V8 over any six banger, anyday. If I want the vacuum cleaner sound, I'll buy a Hoover.

It's emissions man...and light duty on road vehicles got it in the shorts first. And now all the diesel crowd is joining the party too...just wait it'll hammer everybody eventually. Displacement and stroke equals torque. Piston speed has more to do with horsepower. And while I miss the sound of the 5.0 in my 2011, the 3.5 EB in my 2016 pulls a whole lot better and doesn't downshift near as much either so there goes your statement about needing umpteen speed trannies...which is more for MPGs than anything else because these boosted engines make so much low end grunt they don't need the extra cogs to get up to speed. Why does it pull a lot better? Because at 2,500rpms it makes up to about 100lbs more torque than the 5.0 (or dang near any other 1/2 ton V8).

Neither has any post-7.3 Powerstroke without some rebuilding or emissions cheating. I'd keep my 7.3 too if I had one.

I found the article, the statement was in a towing comparison test of the 3.5 ecoboost vs 5.0. The 2 trucks were set up with 3.55 gears, and with exception of the engines were identical. This was in Car and Driver.

Hook up to me bumper to bumper and see what this 3.5 Eco Boost "wennie" motor will do.

Guys who don't think this is the way it's going are so far behind they think their in the lead....

Can someone pls tell me about the "maintenance" (ie. oil changes/types of oil, etc) of the 3.5EB vs. the 5.0? BobG in VA

Sadly this seems to be the case everywhere, American pride of workmanship seems to have been lost along the way. In my construction career spanning 45 years (25 years in Quality Control Management) with about 1/4 of that time being spent working outside of the USA, I found no more defective workmanship overseas than in the states. Sometimes we had to train the workers in how to do a particular job, but then they would do it perfectly and with a little praise and encouragement , they worked harder also.

That may be true, but I buy American for sefish reasons. I work and live in America, so it is in my interest.

Though I still prefer Mexico to Japan. My trucks were built in IN.
