I like that the dealer in town is just minutes away. Also they have a huge staff and every time I go there I get one on one attention from a rep. Also I like keeping the business close to home.

I would have an honest discussion with your nearby dealer and show him your Savage price and see what he will do. I sure like dealing with my local dealer only 15 minutes away. I guarantee you will visit them once you have the machine for support and buying from them is a great way to start the relationship. Good luck!

Ditto. Having a dealer you like nearby is a blessing.

Should I journal my day out for you so you can sleep at night?

Ha! I do think that a journal would be helpful....
I would much prefer to do business locally.
I have paid more for certain pieces of JD equipment from my local dealer.
I don't believe in showing one dealer's price to another dealer for the sole purpose of getting your prefered dealer to come down.
I have always felt that is unfair to the low priced dealer that worked hard on the quote.
I get multiple quotes, then decide if its worth the premium to do business locally....if in fact the local dealer is more.
It sure is nice when you have local support and service.

I would pay more if the the service was better at any dealership. The sales manager at savage is new to the job. He likely gave me such a low price to start moving volume. Turns out I love tractor shopping! The zero turns were great too.

Go with the dealer you feel most comfortable with on service and repair. I am lucky. I drive right past my dealer every day to work. Very convenient. They carry 3 major lines, stock parts, and have a very good service department. Sell a lot of tractors too. Saving a little money is good but service after the sale is more important to me.

I got bit by the bug... went to my local Kubota dealer to get some filters for my BX and spent about $4K on a new zero turn!

You cost yourself more in time , fuel and vehicle wear looking for the lowest price than what you will save on a little bitty tractor.
I would be embarrassed to go to nine different JD dealers and who knows how many other dealers.

With the 1025R being a subcompact you have some options since it is a smaller sized tractor it is typically carried and can be purchased at the JD lawn and garden shops as well as the JD ag dealers. When I looked up for deere locations on their site it typically refers me to there large ag dealerships but if I look up lawn tractors the others will pop up.

Dealership choice does play a big part. One one hand you got the smaller shop where this 18 grand purchase is a big ticket item for them and then you have the big ag ones where your purchase is kind of nominal. The big dealerships can usually get you the best price from volume. They're on hand parts inventory will be much larger.

The smaller guys are usually more willing to add incentives to make the sale but less likely to negotiate on the price because they have already skimmed as much as they to even compete. A lot of times in order to make the sale they may offer a 50 or 100 hr service for parts/fluid only cost.

Definitely go with one dealership for everything and ask for a layout of the costs in your final choices.

Ok Ok fine I'll start the journal... :)

I called 7 of them on my way home from work and they just quoted me after looking it up and I thanked them and they said no problem and I hung up.

But its not at all from the stand point of thinking of being ripped off(or getting a "good deal"). I'm a journeymen meat cutter and proud of my trade and all the butchers that work beside me and all the dedicated companies I order from with service I depend on to keep my quality top notch. They charge me heavily and completely understand that they need to price things to make money. I always tell customers that the the 22 day old ribeye marked down at Walmart isn't worth the hair your pulling out when you get food poisoning and a bottom of the barrel steak.

This is my first tractor and need to make the right choice. Times are tough and I have about 17-18k saved to spend. It literally represents Months of income. So when I say the cheapest deal I really mean the best Value! honest if I had 20k set aside for it I would be waxing it right now :cool2:
