Electric Seed Spreader

I have a walk behind wheel powered seed spreader that is broken, the spreader plate does not turn with the wheels anymore so I want to add an electric motor to it and mount it to my mower or larger tractor. Does anyone have any idea what kind of motor I should use? (Size, torque, RPM, etc.) Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

the motor, The Herd heavy-duty 12 Volt Motor 778 is used with the Herd Model GT-77-ATV and GT-77-Regular Broadcast Seeder/Spreaders.

Wonder if you could use a starter from a Briggs or similar motor? Might need to figure out a way to control the speed. Lots of them available used, and at considerably lower price.

Sounds like a good idea, only thing is I have no idea what rpm I should be using. I dont want something throwing seed 60 feet away but I dont want something where the seed just drops right off.

Bad idea. Starters are high output motors designed for very brief intermittent usage. You can burn em up in minutes if you keep cranking when trying to start an engine that doesn't want to fire. They also suck major juice.

Check and see what The Surplus Center has. I bought a 12 volt sealed motor for one a few years ago and it works great. Be sure to check the motor speed as they are made in many different RPMS. I think mine turns at 600 RPM's. Another possibily would be a motor off one of the spincast deer feeders

try a car (heater-AC) blower fan motor, if needed put some resistors on the line to slow it down, if you go to a junk yard one could most like get the blower speed controller as well as a blower motor, then one would have three speeds or so, and the cost would be reasonable,

some experimentation on the impeller would or could change the throw of the impeller,

Maybe look at one of those battery operated automatic game feeder motors. Wildgame Innovations Replacement 6V Motor for Trophy Hunter™ Wildlife Feeders | Academy, have to figure out how to get just 6 volts out of your tractor to power it .
