Even if you fix it, it's still a light duty piece of crap.

Is this a KK or countryline TSC mower?

I wouldnt call them a piece of crap. Light duty...yes. But they work as they were intended.

If you want a cutter for cuttting saplings and 3" trees, a $800 TSC cutter aint what you need. But too many people think that a bushhog is a bushhog and dont know the difference between light duty and heavy duty.

I have a KK 5'. It mowes pasture grass very well and leaves a nice finish. It was a junker when I got it for next to nothing. Metal that the gearbox bolts to was all busted up, A-frame bent up, diagonal braces bent, etc.

Bought a new stump jumper, New blades and bolts, and a new PTO shaft. Bout $200 worth. I did remove the diagonal braces and put chains on instead so it floats. Nice cutter. But I dont Mow dense thickets of saplings, briars, russian olive, etc with it. Not made for that. I have a HD bushhog 306 that IS made for that.

I am interested in seeing pictures of just how bad she looks?

Agreed, it might be crap but it isn't crap just because it is light duty. Light duty mowers have their place and do light duty work _better_ than a heavy duty mower would.

Now, I cannot attest to the quality of the KK type brands as I do not have one.

I have a light duty Landpride 6ft rotary cutter. In hind site, I should have spent more and bought a heavy duty model. I've replaced my gear box three times, drive shafts 3 times, blades ten times and the stump jumper once. I've re welded the deck on it half a dozen times and fabricated a new rear wheel bracket for a much larger, stronger rear wheel.

When I first bought my land, I used it to clear areas that I really shouldn't have. Stuff over the top of my ROPS, small trees 2 inches thick and thicker, and just about anything I could drive over. I still do this to some extent, but nothing like I used to. Now that most of the land is cleared, it's the right cutter for maintaining the tall grass and young saplings.

It wasn't too hard to replace the stump jumper. I did stand the cutter on it's side so I could get to the top and bottom easily, and I used a cutting torch to take it all apart. Even thought it was cracked and broken, it didn't want to just come apart easily. Putting it all back together was quick and easy.

If you don't want to fix it, I would scrap it and get rid of it. I personally know that if I don't have a use for it, it will sit there for years in my way all of the time. Eventually I'll get tired of moving it to a new place that I will hope will be out of the way, only to have to move it again when it's in the way of what I want to do. After years of this game, I finally get smart and haul it to the scrap yard for a couple of bucks.

We had a few old bushogs that around the farm that my dad thought he would fix or use someday. Well these were 5 foot bushogs one pull behind and one 3pt all had working gear boxes and blades and one had a pto shaft. Sold em both for 300 bucks off of craigslist. I knew we had no use for them, they were light duty, thin from years of rust, and had sat there in this spot for 8+ years before. Scrap prices were and are still very low for steel. Check factory weight and what your local yard is paying. If it is not much, try listing it for same as scrap or more on Craigslist first. Someone may buy it to fix, or buy it for gear box, or deck, etc. Plus you don't have to take it to the scrap yard, but may have to help load it.

goodluck.

Fix it an put it on Craigslist for $400. Someone will buy it for a bit less than that. Seriously... It sounds like all it will take is welding the pan back together and two new blades and bolts. Then, take that money and go buy you a better one. :D

DON'T fix it - put it on CL for $500 and let someone talk you down to $200.

Yep, using a light duty mower for heavy duty work is going to take its toll. I have a light duty JD. I've done limited medium duty work with it but nothing major. It has held up quite well. Its deck is comparable to what some of the lower brands call medium duty but the gear box is tiny. The nice thing is I can mow my woods roads and fields and it does a good job even in Johnson grass but I also use it to mow my 'back yard' and it actually leaves a very nice finish.

Eddie, I agree with the get rid of it advice. I absolutely hate junk lying all around my place that I know I'm never going to fix or use again. On the other hand, I think my B-I-L, who is a farmer, loves having all the old rusted trucks, tractors and implements lying all around his place. He thinks its all beautiful.

It is a KK 6". Bought 16 yrs ago. Replaced 3pt lift frame. Bent it up again, but still usable.
Rebuilt deck with 1/4 inch angle. Put conveyer belt on front edge more than once. If I lift it too high the edge catches the tires. ( I was mowing under a pecan tree and it threw a pecan forward to the front tire which bounced off and hit me in the head. Almost knocked me out.)

Rusted out? Light duty? Not worth rebuilding?

Cut of the deck as narrow as possible. Remove blade and stump jumper/bar, then mount one of these on the blade shaft.

You now have the neighborhood's most powerful paint mixer.

I tried to delete the last pic but it moved to the bottom of the post.
I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
