Is it time for a gasoline engine tractor?

They were ripe ragweed and dog fennel, it was a miserable day. I had to pull up to the well each time it loaded up and peel off / blow out the radiator about every 15-12 minutes. nasty stuff.

I agree.. I'd love to know what limp wristed tractor brand/model has that limitation..

Were you in a cab? I bet your allergy doctor just loves you!!!

About as well as the 650HP Deere diesel installed in the Hellcat airframe. Two different design criteria .
Jay Leno had some custom built car with an aircraft/tank engine . Two large single barrel carbs and about 3mpg Leno had a jobber shop build a custom port fuel injection system. Fuel consumption was reduced while power and drive ability was improved. Leno's Tank Car Gets an Upgrade: Jay Leno's Garage

No cab unfortunately, open platform :)

At the time it was nasonex and alegra, and a sweat soaked bandana over the face as a large particle filter ;)

The gas option will be an old school low compression carburated aircooled. Not the ideal design for high efficiency.
Once AGAIN, you don't know what you are talking about...

The Kubota gas option was water cooled...

I'm getting tired of correcting your constant mis-information, so don't bother commenting on my post any longer... In fact, don't even read them! lol

c'mon Soundguy, wouldn't you like a little Ford Ecoboost to add to your extensive Ford collection? One with a cab...

yes, I did mean a Hellcat car engine earlier, thought that was funny though. Who would ever think the Chrysler 707 hp Hellcat engine would be the wimp Hellcat engine?.....:D As far as an engine goes, you can't be built with tougher components. But do we really need or want a tractor engine
that goes faster than 3000 rpm? And I'm still a little fuzzy as to whether we are looking for power or torque here. I'm sure both but what should be prioritized?
I thought torque involved rotational twist and that's a pto for sure. or a tractor axle pulling against the wheel held back by the friction of the surface of the ground engaging implement.

The reason the big Tesla is such a moonrocket is it produces enormous amounts of torque instantly.
We may be getting more gas engines in tractors as alternatives, but sooner or later, after I'm gone, I think all tractors will be electric.
Maybe diesel powered electric, generators on wheels, but still electric propulsion. One at each wheel. Think of how well that could steer on a row crop tractor
making the end of row turn.

And how much would you pay for that 75hp gas Ecoboost tractor Soundguy? less than diesel?

regular unleaded 2.15 today, road diesel 2.20

farm tractors need fueling and what about hauling large quantities of gasoline around? Can you do that safely? Stiffer regs than diesel? Certainly way more flammable.
And how long will it last in a farm fuel tank?

Um.. so your manual tells you to only pull 80% of the RATED pto HP, and only do it for 30 minutes?

I'd never be able to mow! Many of us mow till the tanks empty, then add fuel and keep mowing.

Post where your manual says that... If It does.. I'd like to know the brand / model... so I can avoid that toy / fake tractor.
You are going to have to do a little better in reading my post...

You can pull FULL power out of your pto, but you should not pull full power out of the pto for continuous operation.

When you are mowing, you aren't pulling MAX power out of the pto... The hp you are pulling varies with the load, sometimes the grass is thicker/heavier and you may approach MAX, then you get to a easier spot and you aren't pulling MAX...

Just because you are running at pto speed, it doesn't mean you are pulling MAX hp out of the pto...

That's the part "some of you here", are missing...

Yeah 707 hp -some wimp:D although the Pratt Whitney R-2800 is fairly large... being a twin row 18 cylinder 2800 cubic inch engine

As far as Torque /HP is concerned I am a big believer in lower max RPM for tractors- say 2000
and near max torque at All RPMs

Mmm ( in the highest gear that could be pulled without continually bogging the tractors engines for hours on end had to be running @ rated pto power )

I don't think I missed anything...

If the tractors were pushed any faster they would continually bog- ie no longer maintain engine PTO rpm... and these are governed engines.

There are NO limitations on rated power pto use for Either of my diesel tractors In the operator manuals that I have been able to find.

My guess is that applies to most of the TBNers diesel tractors and their manuals...

As Yet No One has posted a manuals quote- concerning limiting use @ rated PTO power-

and if someone does, Well that's what some of us would like to see.

Two out of three ain't bad.still low compression and carburated.

Because pretty much EVERY CAR MANUFACTURED SINCE THE 80's HAS RUN ON 10% ETHANOL WITHOUT ISSUES....

Not true at all. Many cars had trouble running it in the 80s is why it went away then came back in this decade. Cars were not designed to use ethanol when it was first released and most manufacturers would say so in the owners manuals. I was a certified Master Auto Tech back in the day and every running complaint I had after properly tuning a car could be traced to ethanol. It was an option when first introduced so many stations had gas with and without. I got to the point that when I tuned a car I turned the old fuel filter upside down in a clear jar to see what came out. Cars running ethanol would have a silver clouded fuel come out of the filter. That silver stuff would settle into the bottom of the jar. Our State Department of Ag that tested fuel agreed with me it was probably the ethanol eating the galvanized coating off the insides of the tanks. Some of that stuff would make it through the filters and ruin the injectors causing even higher repair cost.

Most vehicles of that era also had rubber fuel lines that the ethanol would eat up and cause to leak prematurely.

Ethanol has done nothing but drive up the cost of corn, meat, and give the farmers some extra $$$ for corn crops. It produces less energy and gets poorer fuel mileage than non ethanol fuel. The extra fuel consumed means we still use the same amount of fossil fuel we always have. We just don't go as far on a tank.
