Its a truck, not a mustang ! Who cares about 280hp at 6200rpm, and 253 ft-lbs at 4250rpm (of the basic 3.5 V6) in a work truck, when you can have 236 ft-lb at 1600rpm ?
When both driven economically (at half their max rpm, 3000 for the F150 and 2000 for the Caddy) the Caddy will be as quick, if not quicker, than the F150. Aside of that, it will do so with half the fuel consumption. The only thing the F150 does better than a Caddy, is to compensate manhood. ;) //
Ah, so it will "run circles" around an F150 as long as you don't use the additional power of the F150. Got it. Can't talk to you about the compensation parts as I've never owned a pickup, but if you want to continue to insult Americans you're doing a great job!

There are small vans available here from Chevrolet, Ford, and Nissan. The Ford has a 1.6L EcoBoost that is quite economical and has 184 ft lbs of torque at 2500rpm. The 2.7L EcoBoost available in the F150 has 375 ft lbs of torque at 3,000rpm. The 3.5L EcoBoost now has 420 ft lbs at 2,500rpm.

There will never be many passenger diesels here as they do not pass our emissions standards nd the government does not subsidize diesel fuel. Our Chevy Cruze diesels get excellent MPG but I doubt they will ever payback their higher purchase price.

U// The truck bodies always get better fuel economy and handle twisty roads better.

Yeah, the second-worst handling vehicles on the road beat the second-worst. Nothing says "handling" like a 230" long, over 5,000 lb vehicle with beam axles.....

The new Transit van is unibody and a considerable step up from the Express or Econoline in terms of handling. Largely moot unless your cargo is tied down very well.

I think you mean the second worst beat the worst, unless you think they're tied for second worst...

I was speaking to the trucks and vans that share a platform. The F150 always handled better than the E150, etc. The design of the body, with the large heavy roof of a van in addition to the tall doors on two or three sides, simply makes it more top-heavy and not as easy to drive.

My new F150 SuperCab actually handles very nice with the new lowered center of gravity they got with the redesign. It also weighs less than 5000lbs.

Why are people arguing vans versus pickups in a thread about a diesel F-150? :confused3:

Because we've got a serious ADD problem. And because ...look! Shiny!!

We knew the streets were "smaller" in "old Europe" but we still were not prepared for cars and buses on streets and roads designed 1000+ years ago for oxcarts.

yes. The Caddy has the torque curve of a work truck, with its max torque at 40% of it's max rpm, and the basic F150 has a high revving sports car engine with its max torque at 70% of max rpm. It's about time Ford brings out a Diesel ;)

Just stating the stereotype of drivers of American pickups in Europe.... ;)

There is a reason the American Sprinter is put on 205/70r15 instead of 195/65r16. It gives a less direct feel to the chassis, adapted to what the American buyer is accustomed to. When they came out here with the new chassis in 2006, several ende up in wreckyards because young Kids at courier companies felt the handling invited to drive them like their Civic, causing a 5 ton Sprinter to topple over because of the higher cog.

The Fiat Ducato AKA Ram Promaster has modest sales as well.

I dont see what business the Ducato has on the North American continent either. Over here, we don't like them because FWD and CV joints. Mercedes switched back to RWD because FWD didnt prove durable enough. And Fiat puts them in the US market to succeed a classic Ram Van ? It makes no sense.
