Comparison What size Ford for 15 acres?

/ What size Ford for 15 acres? #11
Both are great tractors. 2120 large CUT, 3930 utility size tractor. 2120 more maneuverable, 3930 bigger, heavier, less maneuverable, no 4x4. I would opt for the 3930. Parts are going to be available for both. You are not going to go wrong with either unit. Best solution is to buy both. Tell your wife that you will need both when you buy some more property.

Sounds like a lot are in favor of the 3930. I went and took a look at it yesterday and it seems pretty solid. I was surprised at how long/low it seemed for a large tractor. Just to add a fly to the ointment, there is also a 6610 for sale up the road that I had written off because I thought it would be too large. What I'm hearing is that maybe that's not the case.

I am still in the "its too big" camp.

And the 6610, definataly. If it has a loader, you are pushing 10k lbs. Darn near industrial backhoe weight.

Even the 3930, the weight concerns me for something used primarily as a mowing machine. Both the 2120 and 3930 will handle a 6' cutter with authority clipping pastures. So unless you plan on getting an 8 or 10' cutter......the 3930 is not gonna be any quicker on your mowing chores. And gonna make ruts alot easier.

As to the rest of the tasks.....not really sure what all you have in mine. The 3930 is gonna lift more, higher, and have more traction for pulling adn pushing. But is it needed on your small 15 acres.

Normally I am all for going big.....but them old fords are HEAVY for their HP.

I currently looking to buy my first tractor. I have 15 acres of land, 95% clear. About 5 acres are pasture for horses and the rest I keep up by mowing a few times a year. The primary use for the tractor will be mowing, at least at first. I also plan to use it for some landscaping/earthmoving tasks, maybe some light road-breaking eventually, post-hole digging for fence, and general lifting and loading/unloading.
I have my eye on two ford tractors, a 91 Ford 3930, 4wd, 8x8 shuttle, FEL, 1623 hours and an 89 Ford 2120 4wd, 12x4 manual, FEL, 1022 hours. Both are right around the same price and look to be in good condition. The 2120 is at an equipment dealer and the 3930 is a private sale.
Is one of these two the clear choice over the other? I understand the 3930 is a UT and the 2120 is a CUT. Are parts easier to find for either? What about reliability? ease of use? etc.
Right now my gut is steering me toward the 2120 because I have heard/read nothing but good things about the Ford CUTs (17,19,21 series), but I am having trouble passing up a larger and more powerful tractor for the same money.
Suggestions?
Thanks

I have a 95 3930 MFWD, 8x8 and loader. It's my primary loader. If it were me, given your situation I'd go with the 3930 and wouldn't worry about it as long as everything checks out. What kind of money are they going for? They'd both suit you well. What's the details on the 6610? I'd say it's too much tractor for your situation, but I'd be curious to hear about it.

Edited because apparently I overlooked the date on the last post, oops.

For your average right now the 2120 is the perfect size. If both units are the same $$$ and in comparable condition the 3930 is what I would buy. Both tractors are high demand units. If you decide later to sell finding a buyer will not be difficult.
