I have a 15 f350 srw XL and I haul heavy when I haul but I have never aired down my tires as I just can't bring myself to always air up and down. Yes it rides rough I have been looking at air ride seats for the front. Yes GM rides better but with 2 ton in bed or heavy load of hay on gooseneck in soft ground glad I have the ford. As factory stock this truck handle more than any pickup should. So far I like the new ford but if I could buy 2004 dodge drw 5.9 I would.

We have about 20 pick-up trucks at work... about even split between chevy and fords, a few dodges. The ford's hold up better under heavy hard use, the chevys ride nicer but needs more front suspension repairs, and the interiors are often broken (door handles break, dash and trim loose or broken)

Heavy hard use? Ford. Smooth daily driver with the ability to haul heavy when needed? Chevy.

I drive my car if I want a smooth ride. You guys should ride in my '63 dump truck if you think your pickups ride rough. :D.

Trucks are supposed to be trucks,,, too bad they get outfitted like cars. Then people started thinking they should drive and ride like cars. :D

Next they will make fancy tractors with cruise control...... Oh wait!

My F450, with the heavy GVW package, 19.5 wheels with load range G (yes, G) tires.... Rides like a tank driving over railroad ties! It made my previous F250 seem like a CreamPuff ... and that F250 already made my buddies Silverado 2500 feel like riding on a pillow of Angel feathers.

I agree with what has already been said... For ride quality, go with the GM. The Ford HD trucks do seem slightly heavier built than the GM counterparts. The Dodge's do look nice, but I have limited experience with them.

Oh and if you think 20" tires are expensive, go price 19.5's !

You are correct in your assessment of "holding up" when worked hard. For one thing, take a look at the aftermarket for "beefed up" GM steering components. Tons of them, because some of the components are just plain weak, especially when used off road a lot. Around here, the true diesel fans drive a Cummins, the workers MOSTLY drive fords, and many folks (like me) that use them for RV hauling and regular drivers, drive GM's. That's just how they go.

Every model has it's strong and weak points. I'd like the torque of the Cummins, the ride of the GM, and the reliability of the Ford (just the truck, their past engines are another story), to make an ideal truck.

So it would have to be a Ford body, with a BEEFY strong front end with independent front suspension, and Cummins 6.7. With the current crop of 6spd transmissions it's probably a toss up there, but it would have the acceleration of the GM or maybe Ford (never driven a Ford 6.7). There ya go, somebody build one and call it The ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE, oh wait, that handle has already been taken. How about the ULTIMATE TRUCK?

We needed a truck and ordered the 2016 F250 Diesel... it has been very satisfactory but the ride over a bump is abrupt.

Don't know how else to put it.

Picked up a Tractor a couple of hours up in the mountains... true, the total load was under 6k but never knew it was there... up or down the mountain.

So I would say the only issue is the abruptness of the front steering over a bump in the road...

It's a King Ranch with 20" rims and the Dealer had them way underinflated.... which came as a surprise since they signed off on a pre delivery checklist.

Well I guess I will have to be the minority but those fabulous Ford's don't seem to out work the GM products around here, we go off the beaten path quite a bit on hi-line right of ways and the 3/4 ton Fords are awful light in the rear end verses the GM 3/4 tons, fuel mileage in the gas motors also is slightly higher in the GM's and there is no comparison in the ride.

At this point I can't imagine not waiting just a little bit to look at the new 2017 Ford. The info put out says they've saved weight in the body to add it to the frame, which makes the suspension more isolated, and gives a better ride. It also looks like the HP/torque figures are going to be very impressive for the 6.7L diesel.

I don't have a HD but many people I know have all three brands pulling horse RV's. I have heard from the crowd that the GM trucks ride the best. All of them hold together good but I am getting tired of replacing those Ford ball joints so often.

My 2007 F250 rides like a dream as long as there is 1k lbs in the bed or a trailer hooked up.

It does help a bunch to adjust tire pressure to the task at hand.

I just live with the ride. It's not that bad....
