I like Ford n GM, a little disappointed by GM as of late, not a fan of Dodge or Toyota, just do not like their look

Having driven the twin I beams, it was absolutely the best truck suspension at the time. The alternatives were brutal straight axles and ball joint systems that weren't up to truck service. Time moves on and there are better solutions today. 20 or 30 or 40 years from now we'll probably have some incredible carbon fiber composite trucks but for now it looks like Ford has the lead again. All the comparisons to aircraft aluminum etc don't mean much. Each aluminum (and steel) application is different. In 20 years we'll see if the Ford engineers or the members of this forum know more about it, but I'll bet on Ford.
I was a Ford guy back then and twin I beam suspensions were junk. Ball joints at 30k, uneven tire wear due to the constant camber changes. ****** off road ride.

It's hard to extrapolate from individual experience. Our '65 went over 100K with no steering/suspension repairs and no alignments. I can't recall anyone really complaining about the Twin I-Beam.

We had a 1968 F100 with a column shift that was a very hard working truck... not a single complaint.

We did have to replace Kingpin bushings after a 100k.... the truck would get a shimmy at highway speeds.

The twin I-Beams were famous for being out of alignment. That was their main problem.
