Hi all .
After many years of cleaning rad often, I decided to think this through. I guess idea probably posted here some where, I didn't see it.
In 90degree cutting heavy grass I watched heat gauge raise dangerous high. Gotta get more air into engine space . then it hit me.......
Take off the left engine guard or fender, whatever it's called. In minutes my temp down at least one notch to very comfortable range. So after
12 or 13 years or research, mission accomplished........ I guess.

Did I do anything wrong? Other than safety issues I don't see any. Also, the fan blades have a guard. It's hard to get caught in blades.
I wonder, Is this fix posted anywhere here. Seems so simple.

After thought; Since muffler is on left side and electric fan hooked up in engine space and circulating air out of compartment might work
to give enough circulation to keep motor cooler.

You all have a nice evening.........Coffeeman

Very interesting. Good move in troubleshooting, at least temporarily. Sounds like she needed some air flow there for sure. That side shroud might could use a few more ventilation points for that extreme summer heat when loaded up?

I wonder if the thermostat is working properly? Curious to hear if anyone else has thoughts.

Good luck.

Over the years I haven't heard of any of us 4110/3510 owners with a thermostat problem. I'm not sure why it would cool much better with the side cover off but anything is possible. For quite a few years I didn't think that dropping the battery down from in front of the radiator would make much difference either but it definitely did after I tried it. Just that slight difference in airflow mattered. With the sidecovers there is plenty of open space downward for air to escape plus the screens in the covers themselves but I guess just the more open area with cover removed allowed the air to flow more freely. It all still goes back to airflow thru the radiator and these have a tight weave and clog way too easily for a tractor.

Just cut the original battery tray down just a touch so it would slip straight down thru the frame members and drilled holes for bolts. The top of the battery is just barely in front of the radiator core now. I noticed when I blow air from the engine side now I get quite a bit more debris out from that area where the battery used to sit than I did before moving it.

Maybe a project for winter. Less heat the better, in my option. I took the other fender off my machine. It didn't make much difference. So remove one fender does job. But, best of all, really good cleaning is best. Had rad repaired in past. The repair shop made rad look new with everything clear like new. Of course thats best for tractor. For sure removal of fender should be considered and emergency fix. Get me to fall and clean it up.

My Mahindra now has a different kinda look. Instead of looking 15 years old it has an antique look. I can park my Farmall Super C next to my Mahindra . However, I like the Farmall look much better than Mahindra.

Cheers....Coffeeman
