Hello,

I have a 2015 Kubota L4060 and plan to do some woodchipping this weekend. I have had the tractor for about 6 months now but this will be the first time using the chipper. I knew from reading the Kubota manual that I would have to lift the seat in order to use a wood chipper so that that the engine wouldn't die. The problem is I cannot figure out for the life of me how to lift the seat. I have a Grammer MSG75G/531 (Kubota # L6023) air-ride seat. All the Kubota manual says is "Tilt the operator's seat forward." Sounds simple but I cannot find a latch or anything that will allow this to happen. Also, the picture they show in the manual is not the seat I have. I'm pretty stumped right now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a manual for the grammar seat? My factory seat just tips forward if you grab the top, back of the seat and pull it towards the steering wheel.

A manual didn't come with my tractor but I was able to find it online...pretty nice manual actually. The only problem is that it talks about all the adjustments and features (including mentioning the dead-man switch) but zero mention of what to do so that you can run your PTO while not in the seat. Sooooo...what did I do...I put an old folded up towel on the seat and a small log that couldn't have weighted 10 lbs. on the seat and it worked. I am actually surprised that the safety feature wouldn't require at least 80-100 lbs.

I would still like to find out what the "sanctioned" way to do it is but, for now, a towel and a "Chipper Log" works for me.

At least you can keep working for now. Maybe try sending member TripleR a message, if I remember right he has a grammar seat in his 5740 and might be able to help out. I just don't know anything about aftermarket seats to be able to give any useful feedback.

Thanks for the lead...Happy 4th!

On the previous Grand L series (Lxx40), you just disconnect the seat switch and you don't have to flip the seat anymore.
The switch inside my seat became defective and that's what I did.
Beware that the security is then bypassed.

Hmmmm........ I've often wondered about this safety seat switch situation. I engage the PTO, stand up, the tractor "beeps" about 10 times and that's the end of it. By the time I get to the back of the chipper - the beeping is all done. They call this - "operator presence control system".

Thought I would share Kubota's response: "I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your machine. Unfortunately, installing the air ride seat will disable the stationary PTO feature as is stated on the front page of the installation instructions for the seat. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

My response back:

"Good afternoon,

Two problems with the below response:

1) I was never told by the Kubota salesman that, "be aware, if you order the air ride seat this will disable the stationary PTO feature."
2) I never received any installation instructions or an operating manual for the seat.

I bought a very expensive tractor (for me at least) and would have liked to have known this information when placing my special order...I didn't buy it off the lot. Long story, short...I find this to be a very unsatisfactory answer and an issue that has turned out to be costly and not able to meet my needs. I believe a more proper response might be that you have developed a factory authorized bypass switch/alarm or some other system that provides the same level of safety and functioning as the tractors that were ordered with the stock seat. Another option might be to refund the price of the seat since it does not allow me to use a critical $3K chipper that I purchased."

Ship it up to my house and I'll see if I can fix it for you. It might take awhile though.
