Traction drive is via a hollow tube driven by the clutch disc. Hydraulics and PTO are driven by a solid shaft within the transmission input tube. Said solid shaft is splined to a coupler bolted to the crankshaft flange along with the flywheel. To remove this shaft prior to pulling the engine or trying to disassemble the clutch in situ, remove the entire PTO unit from the rear of the tractor. The shaft runs from the PTO unit to the crankshaft and is one piece.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense. I'm hoping to tear into it and see how I'm going to go about it.

If you use a car engine you won't have a governor.

My 8n is suppose to have one, it don't work one bit, so it won't be an issue. Even though I wouldn't use a governor, some 300's used on irrigation pumps and such had govenors on them! But like I said, I got no need for one and have never had one that worked to begin with!!

No it don't work, motor bogs down and nothing will govern it back to speed. The govenor needs rebuilt, butall I use it for is bush hogging and plowing the driveway, so I really don't have a use for one. Would be nice thought!! And the oliver, I just want to hang a 3 point backhoe off it and leave it of there, the engine will just run at a constant speed to keep it powered, on me neighbors jd 5200, it doesn't bog any or anything when using it and it's just a baby 3 cylinder. Doubt mine will have any issues with it. I'm not using it for crop planting or anything like that where you'd use a govener.
