Had the cooling system and brakes flushed yesterday at the dealer and was checking out the new trucks. F250 on sale (employee pricing deal) 64000 bucks. F350 Platinum sitting beside it 69 grand. both 6.7 and before 13% taxes....glad i dont need a heavy duty!

The prices for trucks today is so out of wack what people make today.

I thought the price was way too high 10-15 years ago when 4wd DRW diesels were starting to push north of 50k.
Fast forward to today at 70k prices.....makes those 50k prices look good. Almost a 50% bump in prices in the last 15 years for basically the same truck. Whereas smaller cars, still hanging in the 15-20k range.
How many people, (doing the same job not counting promotions or furthering education) are making 50% more than what they were 10-15 years ago. I know I sure aint.

I think it because they still have the auto workers union and you pay what they get a hr. plus their bennies. Now I'm not against unions it's just way to high to buy a car or truck today. There has to be a better way.

They are still out there. Places like U-Ship are perfect for independent transporters with gooseneck trailers looking for loads. I think they have transitioned from time critical work in places such as oilfield to moving small loads like equipment, cars, tractors, odd ball, etc... that are difficult to coordinate with many trucking companies.

Maybe, but have the workers wages and benefits went up 50% in the last 10-15 years?
Someone making $30/hr in 2004, are they making $45/hr today?
I am betting it's closer to $35/hr
Can't really blame the cost of raw material either anymore. Steel and oil are lower than any time that I can recall in the last 10-15

45 k. For a half ton and 65k for a 3/4 had diesel insane!!

I don't know about that. I used to use a lot of steel sheet in custom car and restoration panels. I can remember not too long ago a 4x8' sheet of 20ga. 1008 was about $64. The last batch about two years ago (retired now) was about $95 a sheet. "Overheard" on another forum a few months ago that it's up to around $120 a sheet now. I'm sure the prices are regional but still, that's quite a price hike for cold rolled steel. Somebody got a raise.
I built my 2-ton gantry crane about 12 years ago for less than $200 in steel material. That included a 20' I-bean, 4x4" box, 5" channel and 2" angle. I still have half of the I-beam. I don't think you could buy the I-beam for $200 today.

Ram moved production down to Mexico and still produces one of the more expensive trucks. The big 3 are all expensive but the unions aren't squeezing ram...maybe that's why they moved but they price hasn't reflected that. Without getting political and getting this shut down, I'm a union member, but they have their uses and their consequences. Most people's natural instinct is to want more money and work less and that seems a common goal for some organizations with no concern for how it gets done
