Getting rid of steel scrap metal

/ Getting rid of steel scrap metal #11
All my scrap steel, cans, etc, get tossed in the steel bin at the landfill for no fee. I take it with me when I make my landfill runs, toss the metal, then hit the scales before dropping the main load of waste. The last time I took steel to a yard I risked a flat tire in the mess, and got less than $5 if I remember correctly. Never again at these prices.

I finally took mine in last Saturday, for $90.00 CDN a ton because the price was going down Monday, to what, I don't know.

When I returned, my weekend lady friend wanted to know how rich I was. She thought I was lying when I told her $67.50 and when I thought about the work in loading, the cost of trailer and truck, my time, and the risk of probably at least some highway infraction, risk of getting a flat or two at the wrecking yard, then yes, it's maybe hardly worth it.

I think it is very gracious of you to help the band kids.

I would let it go at that, and not be concerned with what I could get out of the deal.

I have to pay $ 75.00 a ton to get rid of trash at the landfill . So The money I save plus what I get for the steel is worth it

Bigtiller...I am not concerned at all about what I could possibly make out of the scrap and am sorry if you read that into my post. I was actually just wondering HOW they are going to make any money on the collection itself at the low price paid for scrap.

I'm glad to hear that, thank you for straightening it out. I see now where the confusion originated. It was with the sentence near the end of the first post, "AND I get a tax deduction...!!" . It was just enough sarcasm to lead my gullible mind astray.

When I have a pile, I put an ad on Craigslist, and it's usually gone the same day, taken by people who either don't value their time, or can't do simple arithmetic.

If it suits them, it suits me.

...much of it is chain link fencing that would be a huge PIB for me to load
and transport.

If you put an ad or sign up offering the fencing for free, you should have no problem getting rid of it.
Not for scrap, but for fencing, or even reinforcing fresh asphalt.

I can understand using chain link for concrete and have done so in the past myself but have never heard about using it for fresh asphalt. Thanks for that information !!!
