Ok,thanks very much to all. I will keep searching for solutions. Where would the ground strap be located?

Start at the negative terminal of the battery then look for straps connecting the frame to the engine block etc. All current flow requires complete positive and negative paths to the battery to work. You could use an Ohm meter with one end connected to the negative terminal of the battery to trace them from each circuit. A higher resistance reading in ohms is a problem.

Thanks again, all info. is much appreciated. This is like saddling a dead horse!

Maybe a missing ground connection. It usually is when things start to turn wierd like that.

Bingo. When electrical gets weird, check the grounds.

And stop throwing parts at it. Get a test light AND a meter, and start TESTING your way from the battery toward the loads, and from the battery towards the grounds. You'll find the problem.

I would change the 30 amp fuse even though it looks good.

A simple continuity test will prove if fuse is good or bad....There is no in between!

Fuses ' can ' show continuity with a meter or old timey AA battery continuity light, and still fail to pass real current. Fuses can also be mechanically/electrically good one minute, and open the next, and visey versa. Old timey electrician, here... Emphasis on the ' old ' .... :)

That's what mine did till it blew. Power one day, not the next.

often times there have been tractors with pin connectors that are loose when clamped together, only way to test connectors is to buy a pin and test each individual pin connector

let me clarify, we have found tractors manufactured in the last 2 years that have had loose connectors on main wiring harness and loose grounds on all different makes and models. the pins may appear there connecting when pushing male female ends together but there is enough room for the pins to vibrate causing all sorts of random electronic issues. I have seen new starters be bad from factory. I have seen a starter that was bad on a new unit due to moisture corrosion/ rust. good luck
