The house that I am in has coax, cat5 and phone wall warts in each room. I use wireless to every part of the house except for the one with coax from the service provider.

I would agree that in a business setting a wired backbone makes a lot of sense. To me it doesn't as much in the home. Like land phones lines, network wires are going away in the home as I see it.

I so *totally* disagree.
While wireless sure has gotten better, nothing beats the reliability of a wire....period.

I'm definitely on the wired side when it comes to wired vs. wireless for overall stability/reliability. However, my old-fashioned way of thinking may be in for a rude awakening-- eventually. New technologies such as "wireless fiber" might become a widespread reality at some point and actually be a better option in even more scenarios. As with all things tech, future generations will surely look back at what we consider state-of-the-art today and laugh.

Now where did I put that 8 track tape I was playing...

I might have found it if it is Beach Boys Endless Summer playing in my 1968 Mustang Convertible?

I sympathize with the cabling problem. I have a home entertainment system with a 7.1 dolby sound system with separate music and sound effects cabling to the subwoofer, and a front projector in the ceiling. The satellite receiver has coax running to two separate dishes outside, and both the satellite receiver and the Blue Ray player have ethernet, which I took care of with one cable and a switch. There is an external drive for the satellite receiver, an external antenna for the satellite receiver, which splits for the FM tuner. There is an external antenna for the AM tuner. There is a turntable for playing all my old vinyl. I had to cram all the gear and wiring and power cables into one 4x2x2 entertainment center cabinet. Fortunately I did a remodel, so all the wiring for the satellite speakers are behind drywall. Even so, it was a challenge.

Just today my visiting kid told me our wireless is having problems with her laptop.... I handed her the CAT5 cable and said "Plug it in!"
