Fellas,

First, thanks for all the info that I've found on this site! Great stuff!

So here goes...I've come to the realization I need to buy my first tractor. I have 19 acres in Texas but only about 4 of it is cleared. Need to build a driveway, mow about 3-4 acres frequently, plant food plots and do some fencing. I was looking at Sub-compacts but figured I could buy a good used tractor with a little more HP. I've also veered away from TYM and some others over the past few weeks. Got a reputable NH dealer within 20 minutes.

Found a TC33D with low hours (300ish). Comes with a 6ft bush hog. I gotta have an FEL, so that's something I have to consider as an add-on cost because this one doesn't have it. Asking price is around 10k. It's a 2002. Shower with me knowledge...

Thanks

i used to have one, it was a pretty good tractor, mine had HST and SuperStar. Mine was a bit older, It was made by Shibaura in Japan. Check and see if the one you want has SuperSteer or not, because the loader to fit it will be different. SuperSteer is an option on these tractors where not only do the front wheels turn with the steering wheel but the front axle also turns, so the turning radius is extremely small. Those that were SuperSteer and HST also had an auto setting on the 4wd engagement, in effect a fluid coupling between front and rear that allowed slippage when you made severe directional changes. All in all a very sophisticated tractor. Shibaura has been an on and off supplier to New Holland, with many later New Hollands being made by the Korean manufacturer LS, which also makes Case tractors in this size range.

Thanks for the info. What do you think about the price point on this one? It's in garage kept condition...I'm just shy because of no FEL...and my minimal knowledge of tractors in general.

Well OEM Loaders are typically 4000 to 5000 dollars, so take that into consideration. You would need to give some more information about the tractor. Transmission? 9x3 or Hydrostat. SuperSteer? What is the bushhog, and what is it worth?

4x4, HST, no super steer. Bush hog is unknown but in working condition. I wouldn't put anymore than 500-700 value on it.

I haven't done my research but I'm working on looking at aftermarket loaders and/or used ones...

I gave 19,000 for mine back in about 1999 with loader and a Befco 5 foot finish mower.. The Befco sells for about 2800 now, not sure what it was then. So count backward from that. I don't think the bare tractor is worth quite 10K. The hydrostat is worth about 1k more than the 9x3, and SuperSteer was about 1K also. Mine had it. If you could find an aftermarket loader for say 3500 or so, It would probably make you a pretty good tractor, I would bargain on that 10K price though. 9K would be a lot better.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing. It's been on the market for over a month at the same 10k price...so maybe he's coming around to looking at lower offers.

I have a TC33D HST w/MMM and FEL. Bought it 5yrs ago w/686 hrs for12K. Great tractor. I would have said for you to buy it until I read no FEL. With no FEL I would say it is over priced.

Thanks gents. I appreciate the help. I'll let you know how the negotiations pan out. Gotta get him down in order to get that FEL.

He'll have a tough time selling out without a FEL. I bought my tc29d (same tractor with less HP) for $5500 this past December. Mine's HST, no SS, no loader, just like what you're looking at. Mine is in rough cosmetic shape and had 850 hours on it. It sat on Craigslist for over 2 months before i bought it. There was also another one on Craigslist a few hours from me. He wanted 10k for his with the same setup, though that one came with turfs and ag tires on rims, which is nice. 350 hours maybe. It too say on Craigslist for at least three months.

Mine has been a real good machine. I'm up to about 920 hours on it now. At 10k for the tractor, and 4k for a loader, though, I'd look at new machines. A Kioti CK 2610 won't cost much more than 16k with a loader. And a warranty. Same size tractor, but you do sacrifice some HP. Anyway, if you do get the TC, though, send me a PM. I have a good place to get a service manual for it.

Good luck and let us know what you choose.
