It is on the parents but parents do have it much harder these days.

Look at the language and behavior shown on TV, movies, and radio. We cut the cord to cable years ago and we should have done it years before we did but even then, bad behavior is emphasized in movies and music. Even if your kids are completely cut off from media, if there are other people around, they will be exposed to this scat. Years ago I walked into the after school program for one of my kids. The radio was on which is no big deal but the song was about liking big butts. Now, that is a good/funny song but not appropriate for young kids, yet it was on the radio... What is being said in music today would never have been played when I was a kid. TV and movies are just as bad if not worse. Even shows on Disney channel are questionable and the other kids cable channels have shows that are bad.

Later,
Dan

It's called, "bad parenting".
My wife and I were recent guests of some good friends at a Michigan "up north" cottage. Included in the guest list were two young couples with young (3 to5 year old) children. Since we are both officially seniors with grown children and older grand children, our exposure to 'rug rats' is limited day to day.
Now, I understand the need for children to burn off excess energy but, not at the expense of damaging home furnishings, throwing food, and world class temper tantrums while the parents are sipping cocktails and remain generally oblivious to the cayouse spoiling everyone else's weekend.
What the **** is wrong with parenting these days?

It has to do with the parents and how the kids are raised.

Our grandkids get time limits on electronics. Only exception is rainy days and nights. Any fighting over it and they lost it for the weekend, or week depending on there stay with us. No electronics at the dinner table period, by anyone. Same thing when we are out to eat. Only exception for electronics/ phones is if it's work related, from a baby sitter, ect.. Then excuse yourself from the table and take it outside or another room. I've been known to go around the table during a family dinner and confiscate phones, and hats :D

Our grandkids, and kids were taught to respect there elders. Taught the difference between playing, and trashing a place. Furniture was always treated with respect. Or you sat on the floor and stood to eat :) Out to eat, they were taught to act respectable and be considerate of the other diners. Temper tantrums were never tolerated. Throw a temper tantrum and they would get a reason to be upset :) Either a warmed booty, a time out or both depending on the circumstances. Then they will get put to work to burn off the excess energy. If it's nice out, then there are plenty of sticks to pick up from the many oak trees in the yard. Or if it's rainy, then they are helping granny clean ;) And it's not just picking up a few sticks and they are done. It's the whole yard.!!!! Or whole house!!! So they had better hope we didn't have a storm roll through the night before, or we had just cleaned :D

And yes, if they act up at someone else's house, and didnt knock it off. I've had them outside picking up sticks in that persons yard as well :D

Lot of children not all have less and less respondabities...CHORES,lot more easier to get what they want instead of working for it like most of us had and still doing.

It's not just the kids. What is so important to so many people that they can't take their eyes off their phone for more then a few minutes? Zombies!

I am in business for myself and have left my phone in the truck since Thursday, (Today is Monday). You would have to pay me a lot of money to be on someones electronic leash.

I think it's just an addiction to distraction. If it isn't the phone, it's music playing in their ears 24/7

I have a Grandaughter that doesn't come to see Grandpa anymore (she's 14). I put a time limit on the phone thing so she said if that's how it's gonna be she wouldn't be back. It's been two months ago. bjr

I went through the same thing with my daughter when she was in her teens. Mad at me all the time 'cause I was mean to her. Wouldn't let her be on the phone 14 hours a day. Boyfriends couldn't call after 8PM. Now celebrating the 8th anniversary of her 39th birthday she's my best buddy. She'll get over it. Took my daughter until she was raising her own daughter but she figured it out.:cool2:

Combination of parents and environment. The world has changed drastically in the last 10 years with the invention of the smart phone, texting, and social media.

Unfortunately most youngsters do not use those 3 things in a productive manner. The phone is used for all sorts of stuff like sexting, online bullying but rarely for anything positive. More time wasted reading about reality TV stars instead of learning. Social media is used more for slap fights than anything else as some folks just like to be outraged and share thier opinion.

Essentially most people have turned into attention ****** who are willing to do anything to get attention. Making you tube videos with no real purpose other than to see themselves. People changing the way they dress simply to get attention. Sharing their opinions on social media just to get a reaction from someone. Parents who constantly film thier kids even going to the trouble to stage videos in an attempt to "go viral" as if having strangers look at pictures of their kids is a good thing. People willing to change the way they dress or what they eat/drink just to be seen as trendy in public places. It's gotten out of control.

The only silver lining is that anyone who actually knows how to do anything with their hands will be in strong demand in the future where even simple tasks like changing a light bulb or tire will be impossible for the vast majority of the population.
