Hey Everybody,

Hope all is well with you all. I own 8 acres of apple orchard, and I also have some pumpkins growing, and plan to install 60 blueberry bushes in the spring.

I will prune the apple trees over the winter, and wish to buy a wood chipper. I will make the saw cuts (aggressive pruning), then chip the limbs right away. The mulch I will mulch the blueberry bushes, or sell for apple chips. Anyway, I am thinking a 4 inch chipper will be good because it gets rid of limbs, but I can also sell some apple wood from bigger pieces, as well as burn them in my fire pit.

Could be new, could be used, my budget is $2500. I have a Kubota B2650HST to drive a PTO unit, or I could buy a gasoline driven one. I will plow snow with the bucket, so don't think I'll put a blower on the rear of the tractor. (Plus, front mount blowers are costly). So, what do you guys do? I like the PTO idea because I think I will get more power for the price. I estimate it will take a few years to get the whole orchard pruned the way I want it, then regular maintenance after that.

I've owned two chippers - Wallenstein BX42 and now Wallenstein BX62. Excellent chippers - low maintenance - easy to use - chip everything. The BX42 would work well on your Kubota.

I came very close to pulling the trigger on a Woodmaxx. They get great reviews and I think they are a lot of machine for the money.

I have an echo/bearcat chipper with a blower. I run it on an old farmall which has a little over 20 hp at the PTO if I remember correctly.

One thing I like about the shredder (hammermill) is how it grabs small branches and sucks them in. Works great for small material like limbs and branches.

Chipping larger material is more difficult because the manual/gravity feed. If you plan to chip much large material I'd recommend a hydraulic feed.

I'd also strongly recommend getting one with a blower. So much easier than making a pile under the chipper. I have 40 ft of 6" Pipe hooked to mine and it still comes shooting out the other end with a lot of velocity.

Another feature about this chipper that Ilike is the vac function. It is amazing how much air that blower will move so picking up things like leaves is a breeze.

I'd recommend getting something bigger than what you plan to chip as some chippers don't do much at thier max capacity.

One popular and affordable option is woodmaxx. Best Wood Chippers Shredder | Wood Chipper They carry some affordable chippers and have a good reputation.

The Woodmaxx TM86H is well suited to the B2650. Read about it on previous threads.

Huskerfan,

I am looking at one of these this afternoon. Spoke with the owner yesterday and it is low time and seems to be the fit, especially with the hydraulic feed. Will let you know.

Bought this machine this afternoon. Low time on it, good condition. I'll get it home tomorrow, then go through it before I run it. Thanks everyone for your input, I do appreciate it.

Congratulations! You'll like this machine, it'll suit your needs.

Download the manual from the Woodmaxx web site for the latest hydraulic fluid requirements should you need to change or add. The B2650 hooks up to the standard length pto shaft, but make the pto connection first and then the 3 point hitch. Consider a dolly cart to ease hookup. Keep it greased. Blades are reversible if your unit is showing longer shredded chips. Woodmaxx sells hardened US steel knives if new ones are needed. Finally, Will at Woodmaxx can answer questions and is very knowledgable, giving answers by phone or email should the need arise.
