Just think about the used tractor and equipment market in 8-10 years. You'll have to know if the computer is good, DPF exhaust system is not clogged and ruined and so on. If not you could buy a very expensive lemon. You'll probably have to go to a dealer where you can buy a certified pre-owned tractor like Benz. I'm like the rest of you guys I'd rather fix it with a tool than a computer but this is the age we're forced in.

I bought a Branson. It has a traditional fuel injector pump and a catalytic converter type exhaust that can be replaced with a muffler if it goes bad. I like having a traditional mechanical diesel fuel delivery system. Very simple. Keep the fuel clean, free of air and it will run.

Makes me want to buy another pre 1980's tractor, that only needs 12 volts for the starter to get it running-

if the EMP is from a nuclear weapon, you're going to be dead anyway.

Just took my car to a tuner. Stock it's about 230 HP at the wheels. It's now 310 at the wheels (engine was modified to handle it) still passes emissions, and gets better mpg. If they figure out a better map, I can download it. And I'm taking it back to the shop because the Access Port is telling me the left side camshaft is only advancing 20 degrees instead of 30. I'm sold (though my tractor is 20th century dumb).

Almost all cars have electronic fuel injection. When was the last time you had to replace any electronics?

If I wanted to work on tractors I would have been a tractor mechanic. Electronics makes vehicles better and last longer.

How many cars from the 70s or earlier went 200,000 miles with no engine work? You can buy a used car now with 100,000 miles that cranks right up in the mountains or the valley in any temperature and it feels and drives like new.

Every hour you work on an old, broken tractor is an hour of your life that ls lost and wasted. Same with an old car.

If you hate electronics please throw your remote away and change the TV the old fashion way!

It wasn't that long ago that power steering was a luxury on a tractor . Let alone 4WD and a cab with air conditioning .

EMP from a North Korean, Iranian or Chinese high altitude detonation is not the only concern. If the sun tosses another 1859 Carrington Event. 99% of the world will be bewildered and in the dark.

Well, such a nuc won't kill you. It would have to detonate above the atmosphere. But there is about a 90% probability that the subsequent breakdown of society would be fatal.
