Skidding a Log Over Wet Area

Measure your cut lengths off in shorter sections that you can move easier, more trips involved, cleaner wood, personally, i wouldn't be deterred by a little dirt.

I lift the "big" end with the 3 point and let the last little bit of small end ride on the ground...

How big of an oak log are you talkin'?

The internet says (so it must be true) that Oak has a density of around 45 lb/ cu. ft.

A 2' diameter log is going to weigh about 141 lbs/ linear ft.
A 20' log of this diameter will weigh about 2800 lbs. ( -so make sure you use 3/4" plywood vs 3/8" when you make your bogie wheels. )

Your calculations may be a bit off.

Per the woodweb calculator the estimated weight would be 4,119 lbs.

Sometimes... but not always.

Many times I lay cross pieces (limbs) to drop them on, and it keeps them off the ground. It just depends on what tree and what kind of log is in it.

Not unless they are falling in mud holes. I don't like working in mud holes so that's usually a non existent problem.

fall tree... attach tractor at base of tree... leave all branches on.... Lift tractor end.... drag out tree.... once in the location you want... cut all the branches off.

with any luck the trunk of the tree will barely touch the ground.
