I spoked to the man at the trailer place he told me it would be better if you sold it because what I would give you would be a lot less then selling it.
I have a ever last 220 stick welder and yeah I do have the skills.if he doesnt own a welder now, he presumably doesnt have the skills needed to make structural welds with a 110v mig. dont get me wrong, i like my hobart 140, but it is not the tool for stretching a car trailer. my 300 dollar Snap on YA212a would be fine in the hands of someone who had some practice and skill.

Sure, its done all the time. Steel is good for that (if the welds are good). Can be stronger than orig. with doublers welded on the backside. I'd put a doubler on the top flange too. If you can't put a doubler do the cut at 45* so the weld is longer at an angle. 3/16 is nice material to weld.
Agreed if a few hundred $$ this job will cost more than that in time, and restoring axle position adds time too.
