Why do people think it's okay to call/text late?

I think it is perfectly ok to text a business phone unless the ad says "no text" or "no text between the hours of X and Y". Texting leaves a written record rather than "I thought you said".

At this point I'd congratulate him on having a great friend and ask if I could hire the friend as a sub-contractor.

And put in your ads the acceptable times to call and text, that you need a precise location to provide "guesstimates" and you won't do it for what a buddy will do it for.

I've missed several CL killer deals because I tried to be polite. I usually email first (if they take emails). When I bought my $450 Stihl 088 w/ CSM it was late at night, I emailed, got an immediate response so I called.
I missed a 7x14 nice looking enclosed trailer for $2,300 because I didn't call at 4am.

And ultra- do you lie awake at night wondering "car 51 where are you?" :)

I used to train Army people - rule for class was 15 minutes before class time be in your seat and ready, arriving on time meant you were late.

I was dispatch trainer for some 14 years. That was pretty much the accepted practice but then some people thought they needded to be paid for those 15 minutes. Policy was dropped but the good ones still showed up early enough to be briefed and ready to take the seat at starting tiem

I did have one newby who wouild show up not in uniform, shave and change. That only happened twice. First time I warned him, second time he was officiallyi on the carpet with an infraction. That got his attention.

<snert> I have a very good friend like that, she was always notoriously late. One time , I had invited her to be my guest at a military/naval Mess Dinner (a very black-tie affair). The invitation was 1830 for 1900 which means show up at 6:30PM (at the latest) for 'drinks' and Dinner at 7PM. She fussed and changed her dress twice whilst I'm standing around in my Mess Kit looking at my watch.

Short story is that we arrived at the Mess at 1905 and the lounge area was empty... dead silence. I said that everyone is in the dining room. We entered the closed door of the dining room with everyone staring at us (again, in dead silence), I seated my guest and then apologised to the Mess President, the Guest of Honour & everyone present for our tardiness saying it was all my fault and that I would pay any 'Mess Fine' leveed.

(The Mess Pres. knew I was doing the honourable thing and 'falling on my sword' on my guest's behalf and let the infraction go)

My friend was never late again for one of these functions... which is a good thing as she married a RAAF Officer and still regularly attends these functions.

My wife is chronically late. When we were dating we once not only missed a wedding but missed the reception which lasted for 2 hours!

I am an on-time type and it is the #1 thing we get sideways over. Some time back I started just taking my own car and let her get there when she wants. Everyone accepts it so there are no issues.

I was taught, " If you can 't be on time, be early " .

When I was younger I read an ad listing a Model A for sale nearby... turned out only about 3 blocks from my work.

The seller gave me the address and we agreed to meet after work... I decided to drive by on my lunch break and saw the car in the driveway with a partial tarp... so I got out and was walking around it and a woman came out and asked what I was doing and I told her I had an appointment this evening to see the car and just worked a few blocks away and wanted to see... she seemed a little put off.

Anyway, I show up at 5:30 as agreed and the first words out the seller's mouth is did I come by at noon and I said yes... he said we are done and that he was no longer interested in selling me the car since I disrespected him... and that was that.

Car 51 would have been a sweet addition of a very rare model... but I am already jammed for space so if it went to someone local who could do it justice I can live with that.

I would agree with those who say to use Google Voice. It will take 15 minutes to setup and then you have a number where people can contact you even if your phone is having problems (say it goes swimming or gets bushhogged, lost, etc) you won't lose the numbers from the calls/texts that you receive while waiting on the new phone.

No one, not any one of, us said anything at all about it be acceptable. We pointed out several ways to avoid "getting upset". You don't want to use any of hem? That's your choice.

Its not that I don't want to use the methods described....

It's that I simply cannot....for reasons beyond my control. And the point is, I shouldn't "have" to use these ideas because people are idiots. If people were just a little more considerate, this would be a non-issue

Then put in your ads "No calls/texts after XX:XXPM or before YY:YYAM please"

Life is too short to worry about someone texting late at night!

Agreed...

But isn't the point of these message boards to give a place every to vent about things that p!$$ us off? I completely agree that in this day and age, we have to tolerate more and more inconsiderate people, but that doesn't make those inconsiderate actions 'right'.
