When Kubota fuel gauge hits "E", how much fuel is left?

Good timing on thread - I was thinking about this while mowing last week. I put about 5 hours on my 4800 and gauge was on Full+ for first three, and was just below 1/2 when I was done. I ran into town with two plastic cans and filled each with 4 gallons, thinking I would use 5 or 6 gallons. Tank took exactly 4, so 3/4 gallon an hour at PTO speed.

I try and top off before parking, and with13.5 gallon capacity and 3/4 gph burn, I can do a pretty full day without stopping. Unfortunately my tail bone and back are gone way before the fuel.

I have a neighbor cut hay for me with a M8200. His low fuel light started flashing and my portable fuel tank meter show it would only hold 12 gallons. He stated he had cut for nearly 7 hrs so it's using a little less than 2 GPH. I'm guessing a M8200 holds 18-20 gallons of fuel. I suggest to just determine GPH fuel usage and then keep up with hrs of use per fillup.

The Fuel gauges on all the Kubotas I've owned would stay on full for a long time and go down quickly. I assumed it was due to the slope of the property I work. Not much level ground around here. I check the gauge in the barn before starting and if it's below half, I top it off. I carry a dowel in the tool box to use as a dipstick in the field when the gauge gets low and I want to be sure.

How true. Maybe it's just me but I think the Kubota cute fuel gauge thing has gone on long enough. I've owned them for 25 years and they're all the same. Maybe it's time for one that works and accurately reflects fuel in the tank.

My L3400, same way. Once it initially hit E, you could only ever get ~5 gallons in its 9 gallon tank. So I knew I didnt need to be in a hurry. But would always fill her right up without pushing it too far, since once there is enough room to hold a full can.....might as well top her up.

That must have been some very light mowing. Is your tractor gear or HST?

My MX5100HST, while bushhogging puts me closer to or a tad over the 2 gal/hour mark.

And its tank is pretty much the same. Once it hits E.....there is still ~4 gallons in there (but burning fuel faster this dont give me as much cushion as the old L3400, timewise)

My L4200 fuel gauge is not linear... the first 1/2 tank takes a while to burn down, second 1/2 is a 'little' quicker, last 1/4 is pretty fast.. (Nothing ever sticking, it's just the way the float arm swings in the tank). when on 'E' I have about One gallon left... KennyV

The tank isn't linear. Mine is much bigger at the top.

L4330 tank gauge is quite accurate. Has something like a 9.8g tank. Once it gets just under 1/2 on the gauge, we usually try to fill. If you don't let it get under 1/2, it won't quite hold a 5 gal can. Just under 1/2, holds 5 gal just perfect. Have run it very close to empty a couple of times and a 5 gal can brings it back to just over 1/2.

L2501 shows a little below half a tank and it will hold 5 gallons. Get it down to a little below 1/4 tank and it will hold 10 gallons. You should have an old Ford 8N. Just have to guess...maybe or maybe not....enough. Had to walk back to the house more than once on that one. Wife says I need the exercise.

"E" stands for "Enough"
