Why do people think it's okay to call/text late?

Here is another thought. If I send an email or even a text message after hours, I always preface it by saying "I don't expect you to respond to this until you get back to the office" or something like that. But we all know that most people check their emails frequently, even when they are not working. And, many of them will respond right away, because they know when they get back to the office they will be too busy to deal with whatever I am emailing about. There is a lot to be said for getting things off of your "to do" list now rather than later. And if you as the asker are apologetic and polite about it, I have found that people generally respond quite positively.

I've been kissing butt for the last 15 years. The customer is not always right, the question is if the customer is worth keeping due to the aggrivation that they can keep causing as compared to the net profit you make in dealing with them (that's not saying you don't make things right if you made the mistake).

The customer is not always right.
While you may believe that "the customer is always right" it empowers the customer, it can often times demean and belittle your employees those who devote their time and loyalty to the company.

Southwest Airlines is one company that stands up for their employees and believes the customer is not always right. One example was when an overweight person was told he would have to buy 2 ticket to take up 2 seats. The employees would not budge the company stood behind their employees and won in court. If the customer would have won how would you like to be the one sitting next to him?

Here are some more cases: The Customer Is NOT Always Right | Strativity

BINGO!

Back in the 90's, was working at the office late, couldn't figure out who would call the office at 10pm and I picked up the phone just to see who would be so stupid to call so late. Turns out it was a purchasing agent looking for something due to an emergency on his end. He fell over dead when I picked up, and I had the product to him the next morning, and it was a 5 figure sale. I wasn't in sales at the time, but I learned from that point that you may get a lot of stupid calls during "off hours", but there is that one nugget of gold you may find if you do answer your phone. I'v also had guys call me on weekends on a regular basis, but never buy anything. After a while, I let them know that if they want to take my time up, if they don't want to buy but are only looking for information, they can call me during business hours instead of my time off if they don't want to buy after numerous phone calls from them.

Either you want the business or you don't.

If you advertise a business for the general population to call, you can expect calls at all hours.

This is why you have a business line and a personal line:D

I work a lot of odd hours at the hospital... just the nature of working around surgery schedules.

One Saturday I found a problem with a piece of equipment... decided to call the company in Michigan and the person that answered just happened to be the owner and founder... he said he would personally ship it out in an hour and I had it early AM Monday... all he asked for was my address.

I call back to thank him and he said he caught **** Monday morning from the girls in the office for shipping out a $3500 item with nothing more than an address... we got that all taken care of when I called back... the billing clerk was having a hard time because everything she does is based on paperwork and there was none...

Later we were looking to upgrade and I choose that company based on my past experience.

I do realize this is not the way of the world... employment seems to be a revolving door... people have commented how unusual it is for a hospital to have the same person on the job for 25+ years...

On one had business is all about relationships but often it is dismissed or even undermined.

One of my very good friends just happened to be the number two man at one of the nation's largest medical insurers... he was low key and we met years ago through a hobby interest... even among our group people thought he was an insurance salesman...

So the Hospital was having a heck of a time with this company to be in network... it went on for sometime and I just happened to learn of it and offered my help... which was slammed down so fast I just turned around and went about my work.

The next day Admin happened to see me and heard about my offer to help and said it was inappropriate no matter how good my intentions are... I explained if we were really having trouble I could at least find out why and then how... later that day the Admin asked what would a I say and then said OK...

To make a long story short we were in Network the next day... the business manager kind of held a grudge to the day she retired...

With many things... it not necessarily what you do but how you go about it.

Doing your job and servicing customers is not kissing butt and with that attitude, perhaps you should change jobs?

I'm friends with a pain Doctor and we talk tractors all the time... he owns a small ranch.

Patients are his customers and it is not unusual to dismiss a few...

In most cases they are customers that try to game the system for prescriptions and sometimes it for refusing to follow Doctor's orders...

There can be legitimate reasons to no longer want to do business with someone and Doctor shopping is one which is attempting to gain the same prescription from multiple doctors at the same time.
