Got a letter from Mahindra that they are recalling eMax 22 and 25 tractors to fix a possible fuel line connection point cracking and leaking issue. It said something about putting an epoxy on the connection? Anyone know what the repair entails and how long it take to do it? Was wondering if this is a shop repair or they do it in the field. I haven't called my dealer about it yet.

It can be done in the field if the tech has a reasonably warm dry place to work. The repair basically reinforces the hose bibs where they exit the tank.

Dropped my emax 25 off at the Dealer yesterday. Mechanic stated it would take 2 days for the repair, just as Jabonee stated it is an epoxy re-enforcement of the fuel tank bibs.

As it turns out repair only took one day. Perfect timing for this weekend as I continue to clean up my property in preparation to start building next summer.

The repair takes 30 minutes. I think we sold 40 of the eMax's, so we have a little practice on this repair. It is simple, and appears effective and bolstering the strength of the hose bibs on the tank.

It's sort of up to the dealer and the customer, but the repair takes only 30 minutes. If you do haul it to the dealer he can do it on the trailer weather permitting. We sold a ton of these, so we have been doing most of them in the field if possible for the convenience of the customer.

They took mine to the shop and did the epoxy fix. There were some other issues to do with the cap for fuel and something minor. Took them a few days to do it and bring it back

That's always an issue. We did some of these campaign repairs in the field, ask your dealer. We would round up a couple or more customers in a general area and then send a guy out to make the rounds. That was pretty efficient.

It is a similar issue with a normal warranty repair. By nature, a warranty repair is a defect in material or workmanship and is never (in theory) caused by the owner of the tractor. Yet hauling or a field service call is not included in the warranty coverage. It stinks, but to do otherwise would mean to raise prices enough to cover that contingency, and we don't want that either.

A lot of tractor owners have trailers, and that is sure a help.

I'm torn between saying to the manufacturer, "Thanks for fixing your mistake on your dime" and "why didn't you build it right the first time".

I had a 1995 Dodge 2500 pick up with a diesel engine for many years. For about the first ten years it averaged 1 recall every 9 months. I understand that issues that didn't appear during testing sometimes show up later. Other times I felt like I had purchased a partially completed kit truck.

And, you're correct that I don't want the initial cost to be inflated to cover the additional cost of unforeseen future recalls and warrantee repairs.

Well maybe if the cost of warranty coverage were high enough there would be more incentive to keep them from happening in the first place. If their warranty doesn't cost them much then there is no incentive to do it right but to just low ball prices and the competition. In the end you usually get what you pay for. My dealer takes care of me whether or not Mahendra does so he has a loyal customer. If he changes brands in the future, so be it, he still has a customer. I consider price but it alone by no means controls my buying decision as it does for some. Buying for price alone is like asking for trouble so don't go crying when it comes your way because you got what you paid for. There was a saying that you don't get a Cadillac for a Chevy price but sad to say Cadillacs are now junk too.
There is more to quality than cost and price, it has mostly to do with pride and caring about what you do. If you don't have any pride in what you do then you're gonna build junk no matter what you build or who you build it for. Sadly lack of pride in craftsmanship and lack of personal responsibility seems to be on the rise these days. I put in my hours so pay me and let me go home, seems to be the prevailing attitude. It permeates all levels if corporate culture drives it that way and leadership is lacking.
