Bought it on eBay from a used truck dealer in Virginia. It was delivered 1/6/2010, on a flatbed semi trailer. He parked on the side of the road. I backed my trailer up to it, the driver backed the dumper onto mine and I pushed it in our driveway with the V518. Put the ramps down and drove it off.

March, 2013, we moved here in October 2011.

Seeing the above pictures of the dumper reminded me of when I needed to set out a round bale after I sold the V518 and before I got the V417.

This is the way it was done when I had the V518:

Used the dumper, could not see the bale spear, so my wife had to guide me into it. 9/4/2010

Just pickup up my new V417 yesterday. 5 hour drive to get it. Dealer claimed it was the last new tier 3 in USA. It was difficult to find a V417. So now I have (2006)A300 (2016)V417 (2008)Toolcat 5600 and (2005)2200D. Looking to get rid of Toolcat. Worked great but wanted high lift rating and and higher lift with reach.

What brand of back camera system did you get?

Hope that you like the V417 as much as I like mine.

The camera system is a commercial duty from Rearview Systems: Rearview Systems: Backup Camera Safety Kits & Accessories


The front camera is 53 degrees and the rear is 130.

If I knew then what I know now, instead of moving the tail light over, I would put the camera where the backup alarm was.

I thought the same thing about rear camera. Easier to move backup alarm. Already disconnect the alarm. Thanks for the info on backup cameras. I see you changed the protection shield on the front camera. I can't count how many rear turn signal lights I have broken on my Toolcat.

I mounted the front camera inside a piece of 2x3 inch tubing, to protect it from damage.

samtip, after seeing your rear view picture that shows the side of the counterweight in this thread, backup camera , I think the outer location works better for me as I can see the trailer hitch.

I can see the ball when I back up to hook on:

I started to put the camera on the outside and got lazy and put it in place of backup alarm. Just held in with strong magnets.

Well the title is "Toolcat and V417", but looking back, most of the posts are of the V417.

Here is a project from October 2014 with the Series F Toolcat and the V417 that I never posted. Clearing the deep creek.

A dead tree across the creek:

That looks very well made and handy.

I have looked at them a few times, and would/will buy one when I can convince SWMBO that it's going to make life enough easier to make it worth the scratch.

In the meanwhile, I use the top of, and PVC tubes in, our ballast box, and when we need more room than that, we use the trailer hitch carry-all I bought from HF, which gives us enough extra Sq inches for tools, trash cans, and the like.

The only thing I don't like about it is the short side rails, but I may do some welding to augment them one of these days- if I ever get that magical round-tuit.

Looking at a Toolcat for our small farm. Curious if anybody here has done much dirt moving with them. Seems like a pretty stout machine and very stable. 120ft. of elevation change on my little 10 acres.

Might look to the V417 because of the reach, but the weight requires a larger trailer than I currently have.
