I have seen people use a 3rd function valve to run a hydraulic top link.

I would imagine there are folks out there doing the reverse of that and using a rear remote for a 3rd function purpose.

Though the lines would be long, is there anything that would stop me from using a rear remote to run a grapple?

I think it's fairly common.

I would think so too, but I cannot find a lot of literature on it. Perhaps I am searching the wrong terms.

Not rocket science just make the hoses long enough to reach the rear remotes then use the remote lever to control the cylinder.

I didn't think it was. Just confirming.

Its somewhat awkward but it works. We cleaned out about 1,000 old hay bales from a shed last. Winter with a neighbors grapple mounted on the front of my Kubota L5740 with long hoses running from the rear remotes to the grapple.

It's what I'll do once I get a grapple. Cheap solution, though maybe not best solution.

I run mine that way. It would be easier with a fancy joystick controller but not $1,000 easier.

I have been running mine for some time in this manner. You can read about it in the links below. I am fortunate that on my Kioti, the factory rear remote control valve lever is conveniently located to be operated with you hand on the main joystick by lengthening the lever about 4 inches.
Not only do I have no desire for a 3rd function setup because of the money, I don't believe I would even bother to install if it was given to me. I would just sell it. I am that happy with my Rear Remote extended lever operation.
