John Deere 318

Not Sure what year john deere 318 I have but im in need of wiring diagram for it.... any tips or help would be great thank you

Google JD318, go to the Tractordata.com and see the serial numbers listed there.

Trying to re wire it.... seems as tho it was rigged and wires are everywhere.... so many wires jumped off coil and a bunch wired around the brain box black box or as john deere calls it Time Delay Module.... so I wanted to get it right I ordered a used harness with box and been going at it.... but there is alot of wires holy macaroni....

Well as you have already ordered and, I guess, received your replacement harness, keep doing what you are doing.

OR

Just wire up what you need to make it run and work.

If you don't plan on selling this unit, you can throw away all those safety switches, and the delay module.

You only need to provide 12v power to the ignition coil, connect the regulator to the battery and a wire to the clutch.

It turns out that the Linamar engine is the same as the Onan, just with a different label on it. Go here for some info:

Not sure if you are trying to pull our leg, but the onan engine uses electronic ignition, no points.

My apologies im learning as i go and after i posted to thread and kept researching i confirmed its electronic no points lol..... so why is it i got no spark? ....

Either coil or the electronic ignition module bad, if you have the TM there is away to check the ignition module and the coil. Now coils are either old style with certain ohm values or the new style with a different ohm valves. The ignition module is under the fly wheel, so if it is bad you must remove the motor to replace.

Also make sure you have checked you safety switches too.

Thank you all for your help.... Im learning as I go with this 318.... It seems I got power out of both sides of coil..... some times I have spark sometimes I dont.... Scratching my head over here.... :smiley_aafz:

Do you do anything different when you get spark?

If the problem is intermittent, that can be a tough one to solve. Look for loose connectors or wires that are not crimped properly.

The repair manual has a trouble shooting guide. Have you tried following that?

Well after i got new harness in i have no spark.... i dont have anything doesnt turn over with key..... i just jumped solenoid with screw driver..... i wish i had a picture of where some of the wires go to front...... Or a youtube video..... or someone woth same tractor to look at haha.... im about to run this thing over with my truck and set fire to it..... way too much money in this thing
