Been in sparta-marengo area all my life. Would never consider moving out of this area.

Close enough to everything, yet far enough out to be peaceful

Oh yeh, great pizza shop in Marengoo (Rolling dough) I think Marengo area is the best kept secret for low priced land that is close to Polaris and Columbus etc. Not too much of that left.

Yep. Cheap land as long as you get a little ways away from 61/71.

Love rolling dough pizza too. There is another pizza joint there too, pizza-to-go. I don't like their pizza as well, but the wife likes it better, and I am usually over ruled. They have a kick ***** taco pizza too, but comes standard with green olives. So I order it without them and it's excellent

I was cutting grass from between the rows of trees with the rotary cutter. My flock of free range turkeys of about 20lbs were grazing 30-40 yards away. Heard a thunk and seen a golf ball sized rock zing forward out from under the mower towards my prize birds , figured about what was going to happen . Beaned one of best and killed it on the spot.
.

When I was in my teens we had a beast of a craftsman garden tractor, I ran over a railroad spike.
It threw the spike a good 50', and **** near cut the spike in HALF.
Didn't slow down the mower or even damage the blade that hit it.

Had someone been on the receiving end of that spike it would not have been pretty.

So far the nephew and nieces have been very respectful of the rules...

Number one rule is keys are locked up so they need to ask... number two is no riders or horseplay

and because the property has some steep areas these are off limits.

Yes... they are the envy of their friends...

My brother bought one of those made in China Buggies... came in a box.

I was very much against it but in retrospect it has been a great teacher... for every hour they use it there is at least an hour making repairs... tire flat... patch it yourself... run out of gas... walk the half mile to get gas... chain comes off, fix it yourself... bolts fall off... find one and replace it.

I rebuilt a dune buggy for my grandkids (7 and 9). Good running motor. Made sure the brakes worked, even with my 220lbs, and my 120lb wife are goofing get off in it. Put in 5 point harnesses, and my son supplied the full faced helmets.

Buggy will do 40 miles an hour. Had my wife clock me down the road, followed by a stern warning from the sheriff  ...oops

Us big kids had to give it a thorough testing to make sure it was safe before letting the grandkids drive. We even tried to roll it, to judge where to govern it down so the kids get used to it. So, after me and the boys got done seeing who could do the best donut and had the most hang time We turned it over to the grand kiddos. Who then proceeded to give there grandma and momma heart attacks :D

Took those kids about 30 minutes running around the yard, before they figured out where the governor was. then all he$$ broke loose :)

They have learned a lot keeping the buggy going... the 10 year old took a turn too fast then right front wheel collapsed... made a stiffening ring to give added support and so far OK... things like killing the battery or running out of gas or knowing they need gas ahead of time are all good...

Not so bad after all... of course I was right that there is always something needing attention... but, they sure are having fun and learning... like what slime is and loctite and how to check the oil and keep the chain tensioned and tire air pressure.

My oldest grandson is gonna start mowing our yard this coming summer :) He just doesn't know it yet ;) He's old enough and big enough to start using the push mower. I won't let him near the ditch though. That's steep enough, where it gives me fits. I'll also pick up a junk rider mower that he can use around here. This way if he tears it up, we aren't out too much. But he can also start earning a few bucks, start teaching him responsibility and self worth in the process :D
