Vibration in Ford 600?

I went to go check out a Ford 600 series today to see if I want to buy it, and when I cranked up the throttle, even just part of the way, it made a loud rattle and lots of vibration. Is that normal, or a problem? It also made some blue smoke from the exhaust for a few minutes, which dissipated after the engine warmed up.

From what I could tell, the rest of the tractor looked ok, but I'm not experienced at all in checking out old tractors.

hard to tell on a rattle might be the hood sheet metal or fenders. Rattle from the engine usually ain't good

Often those tractors will have a hood vibe but blue smoke from the engine will likely call for an overhaul. Ed

a vibration from the engine could be a missing cyl. a good vibe will cause sheetmetal to rattle.

smoke on throttleup is usually umbrella seals. at minor to low-moderate levels, it is merely an annoyance, and higher levels, it can make her smoke so bad it's difficult to use her and keep plugs cleaned, and see thru the clouds of smoke.

The hoods on mine rattled so bad that it would hurt my ears after an extended time at pto rpm. I put new rubber bumpers under the hood and it is as quiet as a mouse. If you can feel the vibration, then you'd problaby want to look at a different tractor (unless you are looking for a project.)
