What are the reasons for NOT using Cruise Control?

I wasn't the one to call a widely accepted driving style as 'antisocial'. I was just turning that same logic about a normal style of driving being anti-social around to make a point. Point being; that if driving in a manner that many apparently consider a normal method of driving offends someone, especially to the point of creating or posting to a thread to complain about someone's driving, the person who is offended is apparently uncaring for the situations of others. Not caring about others is technically a sociopathic trait. If these other drivers are truly creating a hazard, get their license plate number, description, or both, and call the police. If they are driving within the laws, and you are offended, you really need to take it down a notch.
Peace... I just didn't interpret the original post that way.

Understood, I was a bit on edge when writing it. Taking a tiny snippet of what I had said and using it to call me anti-social sorta struck me as the pot calling the kettle black and I sharpened me stick some.

Driving is a full time job. CC is just one more thing to take your mind off the job.

Pay attention, don't let the "machines" take over. "Tesla Syndrome" will bite you.

Yep, cc is the first step in zombie driving.

I've removed the radio and blanked off the opening in the dash on the sports car.

I can listen to the music of that rotary engine. Yes, It's that important to pay attention.

Motor vehicle fatalities are our socieitie's "accepted mortality".

While hang gliding gets a bad rap. Go figure....

Yea, it's really amazing how many people arrive late to work each day across America complaining about being stuck in traffic for an extra hour on the freeway due to a wreck without ever giving thought to the fact someone may have just lost their life. Their only concern is how it affects them (OMG they had to disable the cruise control!).

Ya know what I find most humorous really. When I first clicked this thread I was expecting it to be about cruise control on a HST tractor and how it got someone into a pickle...

You missed it? Here ya go...

If you put a bunch of cars in a line, every two second one takes off, they each accelerate at the same rate to 55mph and all cars maintain 55. No cars will ever interfere with others, there will always be a 2 second following distance, and it will take the same amount of time for every car to make the same journey. This is the way things work in a perfect world, not our world. Our world folk believe things like the quote...

Thanks for that. You are correct.

Speakng of people believing weird things, I came across one who claimed that the slower you cruise, the more gas you use as you are driving longer LMAO.

And thats all you got?

ITs a whopping 100HP saturn with a 5-speed manual. Not exactly like it reacts quick to a pedal change, thus it is pretty easy to maintain a constant speed on flat ground. I have driven a car of this same model for the last 15 years as well. I am not fooling anyone. But your missing the whole point anyway.

Point being....IF I average 55MPH, and you have CC set at 55MPH.......there may be some gap change.....BUT we will get there in the same a mount of time.

Again.......you have never answered. Why do you feel the need to maintain a constant distance, rather than a constant speed like CC was designed to do?

And where did I say I maindtain a set distance? Still straining aren't you.

As for your claim of 1/2 mph maintenance, you now have it down to "flat ground". Where does that eveyr happen for more than a short distance. And no, you are not maintaining it without looking at the speedo constantly and even then you can't tell 1/2 mph on it.

Keep straining.

So you are driving a car with stick shift I assume. Using CC does not "take your mind off the job" any more so than using an automatic tranny.

My preference in work vehicles (i,e, trucks) is manual tranny, cars - auto.

And expecting everyone to perform to, whatever it is you consider to be "normal standards", isn't anti-social? Driving for efficiency isn't a normal standard to you apparently. Hate to break it to you, just cause you don't consider it to be a normal standard, doesn't make it so.

Anti social is expecting other drivers to compensate for your poor driving skills. Traffic moves best if the "flow" is constant.

I was behind a guy, that was behind a five ton truck. At first, I thought the truck was towing the car, it was so close. This went on for half an hour or so. Then it became multi lane, and I actually managed to pull along side this guy at a light and get his attention. He was all smiles. I asked him, if he could have driven any closer to that truck. His smile disappeared, and he answered, that he could!

Man, too many people drive without using their brain!

I see that all the time. The other day I had one following me so close I couldn't even see his hood, only the bloom of his lights hidden behind my tailgate. I don't get it at all, do they think they are going to get there any faster? That was in a 3 mile downgrade in a canyon and I was at 65 in a 60 zone.
