I've removed the radio and blanked off the opening in the dash on the sports car.

I can listen to the music of that rotary engine. Yes, It's that important to pay attention.

Motor vehicle fatalities are our socieitie's "accepted mortality".

While hang gliding gets a bad rap. Go figure....

I haven't gone that far but I rarely have the radio on and for sure quit listening to 'talk' shows. Sure does take your attention offf the driving tasks. I get pissed at myself when I look in the rear view mirror and find a vehicle there that I didn't know about, obviously I had been driving HUA.

And where did I say I maindtain a set distance? Still straining aren't you.

As for your claim of 1/2 mph maintenance, you now have it down to "flat ground". Where does that eveyr happen for more than a short distance. And no, you are not maintaining it without looking at the speedo constantly and even then you can't tell 1/2 mph on it.

Keep straining.

Keep straining? Where the h3ll did that come from. Thought we were having a grown up civil discussion. Sharing opinions and experiences, and thats the best you can resort to?

You seem to have a big beef with drivers that slow down going up hills. And speed up on the downhills or in anticipation of said hill. While leveling off at a constant speed on the relatively flat areas.

Perhaps it wasn't you, but several that share your opinion have mentioned issues it "can" cause if the trailing vehicle "assumes" the vehicle in front is speeding up for good.....when in reality they are only doing it so they don't have to downshift on the hill. The problem is when the trailing vehicle speeds up as well....IE....trying to maintain a constant distance instead of trying to maintain a constant speed themselves.

Then when I say i can maintain 1/2 MPH on the flat....you have issues with that and clearly cannot understand the meaning of what I am saying in the context of the thread. So let me spell it out. On the hills....the ones that require quite a bit more pedal from a 100 HP economy car....I speed up in anticipation, so I don't have to put the pedal on the floor to maintain speed on hill. All other times.....(what I am calling flat)....yes I maintain speed. Do read flat in the literal since. It means relatively flat, where as it don't take much pedal movement or downshifting to maintain speed.

Anyone following me on these relatively flat areas, and sets their CC accordingly.....and DONT FIDDLE with it, I am not gonna cause you grief. I will speed up in anticipation of that hill, putting distance between us, so my slowing while going up it DOESN'T effect you. If you take that as a sign to speed up yourself, don't be pissed when we slow back down normal speed

So, in summary, stop worrying about my speed fluctuations and style of driving. Instead, if you were focused on maintaining a constant speed yourself, none of the drivers behind YOU would have to suffer from your mistake of trying to maintain a constant distance.

I was behind a guy, that was behind a five ton truck. At first, I thought the truck was towing the car, it was so close. This went on for half an hour or so. Then it became multi lane, and I actually managed to pull along side this guy at a light and get his attention. He was all smiles. I asked him, if he could have driven any closer to that truck. His smile disappeared, and he answered, that he could!

Man, too many people drive without using their brain!

Economizing.

Hey Bird, didn't you have a link to a safe driving course somewhere at one time?

I probably did since the departmental safety program was part of my responsibilities at one time in the police department. I'm not sure which one, if there WAS just ONE, it might have been. But I think both the AAA and the AARP Defensive Driving courses are pretty good. My wife and I still take the AARP course at least once every 3 years for a very slight decrease in our insurance rates, plus I still learn something new now and then. The AARP course is geared more for older drivers. And of course, in Texas, people sometimes take such courses in order to get a traffic ticket dismissed. Fortunately, neither my wife nor I have ever needed to take one for that reason.

I see that all the time. The other day I had one following me so close I couldn't even see his hood, only the bloom of his lights hidden behind my tailgate. I don't get it at all, do they think they are going to get there any faster? That was in a 3 mile downgrade in a canyon and I was at 65 in a 60 zone.

If someone tailgates me I just touch the brakes a little. Makes them back off every time!

There are many vehicles sold BRAND NEW that cannot maintain the posted speed limits on my local hills at wide open throttle. If you did that twice a day, five days a week, you would blow your car up.
If your vehicle cant handle running at WOT for a few minutes each day, you need to maintain your vehicle better.

Also, its safer to not cause people to have to go around you:

What "maintenance" would you suggest be done to a BRAND NEW CAR that would give it the extra horsepower to pull the hills? LOL
