New 2565 Major Problem!

We occasionally fab up custom belly pans for our customers.

Doing some 3/16 pans for my 4025 right now. One runs from the back of the FEL bracket to the rear axle bolted to the rails for the FEL, the other under the engine itself bolted to the front mounts of the FEL brackets. I shred through wooded paths. Lots of nastiness waiting.

I'm not sure if Mahindra can do much here. Build an idiot proof tractor, and they'll just build a better idiot!

Mahindra is actively marketing these tractors on Rush Limbaugh and other forums to suburban and neophyte rural homeowners. Many of these people grew up with automatic transmission cars, never even changed the oil on their push lawnmower by themselves, and have absolutely no experience operating heavy machinery. They spend more time getting pretty in front of a mirror every morning than getting dirty restoring classic autos or rebuilding old tractor engines. And if you know anything about the Millenial Generation you will know that this trend is only getting worse.

I know how you must feel. Last year I had the cr*p scared out of me. My Kubota M6040 oil filter is not the problem. It tucked up high - inside the frame rails. Its the two hydraulic oil filters. A big stick?? popped up and did a number on the lead one. It really put a dent in it - but no leak.

I gently drove home, drained down the 16 gallons of hydraulic fluid, replaced BOTH hyd filters, put the oil back in and felt VERY fortunate.

I think I will do further research on finding/building some type of shield. Even if it takes an extra 15 minuets to remove the shield - how often does one change the hydraulic fluid.

I hope you have an understand dealer and can come out of this without loosing too much hide. Please, keep us advised.

Our tractors today are fitted with FEL's and hoses that older units didn't have. We don't use them strictly for tillage like our grandfathers did. They are exposed to many more inherent dangers to hydraulic lines, filters, hoses, etc...than ever. Even in the best design where a manufacturer tucks those filters and hoses above the drive line a stray stick can cause grief sometimes creating serious damage. I would think that some type of forestry protection such as a simple belly pans, filter guards, added hose protection, etc... will be offered in the future from companies that see the need for them. Until then we are left up to our own devices. The market may be too small for such an effort. It would be nice to be able to go to your dealer and order a belly pan and filter protection kit as an option.

Oil filter on my JD 4720 is high on the side of the engine it also has a "pan / plate" until it for draining out but I guess that would offer some protection as well. never thought about having this issue, but I guess we should all take a lesson here...could happen to anyone

Absolutely. I don't think a complete belly pan skid plate is completely necessarily in most instances. If attachment points could be found to affix shields for filters and hoses most folks would be good to go.

I was out back pushing down some small trees and self adjusted my mirrors a few times with the small trees with my open station 5035. Sure glad I did not take the cab'd one out there. Miss my of JD 2240, only thing I ever messed up doing that was the fuel filter up high on the engine one time..... It's nasty out in the bush..... :)
