I was out using the L3010 this morning and when I turned the key to shut it down it continued to run. I tried several times and I could hear a faint click when I turned the key to off. I pulled the lever to shut the engine down.

When I turned the key to restart the engine I get nothing, complete silence.

Any hints on where I should begin my search for the problem?

Fuel shutoff solenoid.

Complete silence? as in NO sign of battery electrical power?
Starter motors make a lot of sound. Just turning the key should have dash lights etc.
Turn on the head lamps and see if there is battery enough.

The battery is good.

I don't hear any relays clicking when I turn the key on.

I don't know about the issue of not being able to shut it down, but a few weeks ago after I shut my L3410 HST off, moments later it would not start - would not turn over - nothing - but had lights. I checked everything I could think to do - battery, fuses, the slow starter fuse, fuel, making sure I was in the correct start-protocol (e.g. pto off etc.). I would hear the faintest of clicks when I turned the ignition - so faint I am not certain I was hearing it.

Anyway, after checking here and elsewhere for suggestions, someone said to make sure the clutch switch was working and that the accelerator pedal was in a neutral position. I had no idea what all that was but went searching. I found an electrical connection down under the accelerator pedal and managed to get to it - tight - and pulled off the rubber cover. When the cover came off so did the two wires that were connected so some kind of switch. I tested hooked the wires together and it started. So then I thought the switch might be bad but when I tested that it was good. So I assumed that all that had happened was that one of the wires to that switch had become disconnected. I put some new slide on grips on the wires and reconnected those to the switch and it started up has worked fine since.

I have no idea if this is your issue, but I would first check the starter fuse (on mine near the starter - 40 amp) as it could be that, and then as you try different things and find that nothing else is working, you might want to check the accelerator pedal neutral switch - assuming your model is similar to mine.

OK, I double checked the battery and it is good. I don't have any lights working. Maybe the ignition switch is bad?

I think theres a big system fuse in a good sized wire that taps off batt+ at the starter. Like a 40A inline fuse that feeds all system controls. If this fuse blows you cant energize the starter solenoid ... or anything else.

The "no shut down" Symtom is consistant with no electrical power IF your tractor is fitted with an "Energize to STOP" Fuel cut off solenoid system. (And I read that some Kubotas are, but I am no expert) With that fuel cut off system, battery voltage is present at the cut off solenoid ONLY for a few seconds after the key is turned to the off position. Energizing the solenoid cuts fuel delivery.

And then with no battery power making it to the system, you get nothing at the key. It could be as simple as a bad connection at the battery terminal.

You are right CalG - the L3010 has an energize to stop fuel valve. With no power the fuel valve is open. If you loose power the fuel valve will not close so the engine will not shut down when you turn the key off. Then it won't start because there is not power to the starter as said above. Start with the fuses and look for frayed or pulled wiring.

Just a quick update.

I found the ground cable connection was slightly corroded where it attaches to the frame. I had to remove the batter tray to see and repair the connection.

Everything is running well again.
