Super Moon

My wife and I went to see the Sand Hill crane migration in northwest Indiana Sunday. On the way home, going north toward Valparaiso on 421 we saw the sun set about 5:30 and the moon rise in the east just after sunset. We were in a VERY flat area with mostly harvested fields, so we saw it breaking the horizon. It was huge! But it was also an exceptionally clear evening, so there was no dust or dirt in the atmosphere to make it any nice colors. It was just white right from the get-go. I've seen prettier moon rises, but none bigger. Didn't have a good camera with us or I'd have stopped and taken a picture of it going through some high-tension electric towers. It was framed perfectly. Man, never leave your camera at home! :laughing:

The coyotes are enjoying it. We have never heard so many around us as the last few nights.

I had to look this up - according to Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson - and after filtering out all the exotic terminology - this Super Moon was around 17,000 miles closer to earth than normal. Still, it was some 221,000 miles from earth - "normal" being 238,000 miles.

Unfortunately - no party here, it was raining and even the coyotes were under cover.

Yeah, that's what we had here too, and I was the ONLY guy that attended... um hum... first liar doesn't have a chance.

I've alway heard of parties like that - I always seem to get the wrong directions or show up a day late. And I simply couldn't think up a better story(lie) than you guys.

I bought a nice little camera just before I got my latest smart phone. Mistake... The camera just sits now. I did not realize how much better the camera's in smart phone had become. No way are they as good as high end cameras, but my smart phone is as good as my 100 dollar camera. And good enough for most people I think.

Be careful with those kind's of party's, you might want to run for President someday............

Should have said, no GOOD camera. Cell phone camera couldn't do it justice.
