A friend was supposed to help me build a machine, and did get off to a good start. But the project stalled, and I can't get him to carry on. Every time I approach him, he insists he will, despite me giving him every opportunity to bow out. No hard feelings.

Anybody know of any talented and reliable machine designers?

Someone with hands on experience of loader type hydraulic attachments.

Someone that has worked in the trenches and got their hands dirty.

Someone who tends to over-build things, unlike most manufacturers that usually look at their profits. I am building one (1) for myself so material cost per unit is not an issue.

Location these days, isn't even an issue. Good thing for that.

I rather not say, what I am building, as it is a copy of a commercially made machine.

Thanks.

There is that guy from Chechnia or some eastern block here that built the back hoe. Super talented.

If the work is already started in solid works.... your going to have a hard time finding some one to take over someone else's project. everybody has a away of building things and it can be very time consuming figuring out how some one else did it.

when looking for some one for Solid Works help.... Ask if they are a Certified Solidworks Professional (CSWP). Its proof they know how to run the software efficiently and build your cad model in a way that can accept design change.

if you check the solid works web site, they keep a list of CSWP's.... that would be where I would start looking.

it will be hard to find a freelance designer with a "legal" version of Solid Works

good luck

Contact your local community college or training centers that offer this type of training. They should have a list of manufacturers that utilize modeling software and possibly designers that can work for you. I have taught Solid Works and Solid Edge. All modeling packages work the same but are different in complexity and cost. Fully parametrically constrained models take time to develop but sometimes are not needed. It is based on the design and application. Good luck.

I hear there is an interior decorator in town if that helps.

Patents are not enforceable unless you sell or barter what you are making. No danger in sharing what you want to construct if for personal use.

You don't HAVE to use a designer who uses Solidworks but there are some limitations albeit minor if its not too complex.

Most anyone can open a Solidworks file, part, or assembly and start using it immediately.

If someone is using the same software, changes to existing features can be done by going back and changing a number. If they are good designers, this updates the assembly model as well. (top/down design).

If you give it to someone working with other software. They have accurate models but there is no history to modify.

They can add, cut, or create changes. They just can't go back and modify changes so its a little slower. You can still update the assembly but it probably becomes a manual task rather than an automatic one. Again a bit slower but not a deal-breaker.

Good luck and contacting a nearby community college is a good idea. There are also online sites where designers bid on this stuff.

Whoever you use, they should provide you with a pdf to show the work is done to your liking. After you pay, they should provide the models and 2d drawings if that is what you requested.
