Hi all,

In the market for a post hole auger and recently camp across a reasonably priced PA15 for sale and I am seeking some advice on compatibility. Now the 110 compatibility chart lists both the PA15 and PA30 but only shows the PA30 as being recommended. The worksite pro documents note the 110 as being compatible with both and the Deere augers brochure doesn't mention the 110 at all. However the augers brochure illustrates specs which suggest flow rates for the PA15 would be more inline with the 110's capability. Although the PA30 has substantially more torque capability. A little confused and seeking advise .... anyone??? Comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am pretty sure more than one of the110 owners on here has deere augers, so they should be much more helpful than I can be, but if all else is equal flow should determine speed, and psi torque. It is likely that the 30 is internally a little more gear reduced (hence higher torque), but if you can't spin it fast enough the dirt may stick to the augers, likely more of an issue with smaller bits. It might be helpful if you state you intended hole size, and soil types. Best wishes.

Looks like one is smaller but will work on the 110 TLB.. can't see any harm in using a smaller one if it fits the task at hand.

Also, don't think the 110 TLB will tear up the PA15, if that is your concern.

The PA 15 will work fine with the 110, the PA 30 is a more powerful unit which most people prefer.
You'll be confined to smaller diameter augers with the 15.

Thanks all for the feedback. As for my intended use, I have about 300 fence posts to install after which I plan to use the auger for tree planting - likely a short 24" bit. My understanding is that the PA15 should drive a 12" auger fairly well. The unit comes with an 8" bit.

Will be real nice for planting trees too.

A PA15 will work fine for the post holes and fence. Turning the 24" shrub auger might be too much for it, depends on the ground you have.

I have a PA 30 with quick coupler to fit my back hoe, it turns slowly as mentioned but still makes a hole quickly. I have used it with a rental 24" bit and it worked pretty well but the ground was not real hard either. I use 6 and 12 inch bits most of the time and in most cases holes take about 5 to 10 seconds to full depth.

Great information Jenkinsph. Now its a toss-up between the 15 and the 30 - but I think the 15 would cover my needs.

I bought the PA 30 because I build and install custom wrought iron gates and some of these are heavy enough to need large foundations and holes.

I think for fencing and the occasional shrub the PA 15 will be fine.
