Good evening all. 35F this morning, clear, light wind. Made it to 63F, windy enough to drop more leaves, and clear. Slow start for me, bike ride, then pulled a plug that will be covered up by storm shelter, and finished with more leaf pickup. Done with leaf pick for a few days, need to get garage organized after shelter install.

Very still day, the cockeral crowing up the hill almost sounds as if it is in our back yard.

Spent most of yesterday looking at how to modify some code that has been in a product for at least 6 years. It is tied up with the way that lots of different tasks interact with one another, so I'm really wary of inadvertently introducing a serious problem into something that peoples lives depend upon. Also it makes me wonder if this is the sort of thing a self employed person should be doing - my liability insurance will not save me if I got something like this wrong. A sensible man would say no, but then those who are adverse to taking any calculated risks probably wouldn't operate the machinery most of us play with every week.

Don, did you ever finish hanging on the pegs on the other side of the tbn bridge ?

Drew, so now I think I know how to pronounce your surname. I haven't heard augenblick since I was 15, when were taught some German at school. Great tale from your grandfather. I wonder if any other descendants of polite immigrants now have the surname EineSekundebitte ? :)

Good morning all, 38 going to 48 and sunny. Finished up the insulation yesterday and started cleaning up. How do I make such a big mes in a short time? Hope to get some OSB on the walls today, again we will see.

Drew, Nothing as big as your family history but this is the story we had passed down. My great what ever grandfather was raised by his mother and a Mr Allen paid his way through school and helped him start a business. While he was in collage he was asked to watch over another young man Mr Allen was helping. My gr gr....grandfather wanted nothing to do with him. This younger man only wanted to smoke dope and drink and my grandfather wanted to get his plantation started, Point of Fork on the point of the James and Rivanna rivers. The younger man was Edger Allen Poe.

Have a great day. Ed

Good morning! 50 outside heading to the 60s. The clouds and chance of rain start this afternoon and increase Sat & Sun. We started putting the wood facing on the bridge and hopefully can finish this morning. Pic pf Ron placing cedar on bridge. IMG_0061.JPG

Frosty 30 heading to 54.

Fascinating reading so about many ancestry stories. Ed, I didn't know they smoked dope back in Poe's days. But, I can picture him in my mind doing exactly as your grandfather described. Have you been to the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond? ...old stone house in area where he used to live, and he did have a job there...literary publication...I guess he just wasn't cut out for farm work. Read a lot of Poe in high school.

Coffee is done brewing. 52ー with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 63ー with chance of rain in afternoon. Don and I got about 80% of the blocks hung on bridge. Ran out of daylight to finish. Hope we can get finished before rain hits this afternoon.

The look at ends will not be what is seen from bridge. It will look like stacked logs.
My ancestor came from England and Belgium. The ones from England came down from Canada as fur traders and settled in central MI. Those from Belgium came before WWI. Not much history beyond there. Although family from Central MI have done a family tree that we have copies of. Our copy was last updated in early 1980's.
Good Morning All.

The red cedar looks a bit bright now but it should weather to a pretty matching color of the surroundings. The spaces will be filled in and it will look uniform and rustic when finished. There are about 80 cut logs now on the bridge, another 20 to go. The lower cedar logs are longer than the upper so when you look down from the bridge all the logs will be visible. More pics when we finish!

Further down stream the dry creek is damed up to form a big pond and during the wet season there is about 2 feet of water under the bridge. We are expecting up to 6" of rain this weekend so we need to finish today or it might be another 12 years . . . .
