I reckon time will tell, It is on the way now... I have a 1 watt LED 3 aaa cell flashlight I go about 4 years ago and it is still working fine, and it is far far brighter than my old incandescent 4 D cell Maglights. I understand the new LED Maglights are very good.

Best time to buy a mag light is Christmas time, around here every year for the past 4-5 years lowes sells the 2 and 3 D cell LED mag lights for $19.99 I bought one of each one year and since have never been able to beat that price, I may pick up another couple this year if they go on sale again.

I'm happy with the LED mag lights, biggest advantage is a long battery life to mag lights

Might have been Home Depot now that I think about it

Yeah. I was at HD the other day and was looking at them. Some of those are BRIGHT! Will probably pick up a couple myself.

I've had OK luck with the cheapies. Besides, I generally lose or misplace them long before they're broken, especially the LED ones since they're so small.
The wallet pain is much more bearable when it's a $5 one you lost. :2cents:

One word of warning. Do not put the batteries in backward in these flashlights and chargers. This will burn out your flashlight.

I will gladly warranty your $5 flashlights for a year. If one fails simply mail me the date of purchase along with $7 cash for handling charges and I will refund your full $5 purchase price. (Don't laugh. This is the same warranty I got with a $5 hose nozzle I bought a few years ago.)

I remember seeing that "warranty" back in the late 70s/early 80s when they first came out with those $1.99 LCD stick-on clocks. I wonder how many people actually sent them in with $5 (or whatever) when one of them failed.

I received my flashlight, complete with lithium ion rechargeable battery, (18650) chintzy little wall charger for it, and an 3 AAA battery holder if you want to go that way and the carrying case to keep everything in.

I am fairly impressed with it. It is way brighter than the brightest flashlight I had in the house, that I was impressed with before. It has 3 power levels, is focusable from a wide dispersion walking light to a spot light that is mighty brite, and it has the strobe mode, of which I am not really sure what that is good for, maybe to use if a helicopter was trying to find you ? and it has the SOS mode that sends SOS in morse code continuously. Overall, everything worked out of the box and it is one bright little light. Not bad for $12 shipped to the house from Amazon.

A lot depend on the intended use. One flashlight is not enough. :) I just picked up a tac-light and mount for my nighttime shooter that's 1000lm but I sure wouldn't want to use something like that to search a closet or under the sink. It's TOO bright for tasks like that. I use those free LED flashlights from HF for things around the house, in the shop and getting to a shed after dark. Even put one in each vehicle. They last a long time if you're gentle on the switch. But I've fixed that with a couple drops of super glue. Sure beats those old two D cell clunkers I used to haul around. And you can't beat the price. :D

Yep, flashlight technology sure has come a long way. I grew up with copper/nickle plated D cell flashlights. They worked um some of the time. Then when I got out on my own and bought Maglights I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. And then came the LED revolution. Oh My.
