Idiots and winter driving

B&D, you're gona have to enlarge your world. There are places where the four ways are required for all vehicles travelling below a certain speed. It's an indication the vehicle is travelling below normal speed. There be a lot of us just be normal folk with normal reactions that need all the help we can get!

No excuse for flashing bright lights in other driver's eyes. I have driven in more snow than you ever will. If you are driving that slow put a SMV reflective triangle on your transportation and run your blinkies 24/7 and feel really safe..

Yeah, learned that one the hard way myself. I've lived most of my life in northern New England where for the most part our snow is fairly dry, even our "heart attack" snow is nothing like what you get in the PNW. Spent a couple years out there in the mid 70s (when pretty much everything was still rear wheel drive). Got turned back one day heading west thru Stevens Pass (they weren't allowing anyone thru unless they had chains or studs...I had regular snow tires, but not acceptable), turned around prepared to go back to Wenatchee, then to I-90. Well, there were still uphill sections going that way too, and with the amount of traffic being re-routed the snow had become packed and very icy. Got about halfway up one hill, and that's all she wrote. Fortunately, someone came along and lent me a set of chains which got me home safely. Thank you again 40 years later!!

No offense dude, but what is it with (some) motorcyclists and extremely loud exhausts? Is it that you're oblivious to how annoying/deafening it is to people behind or around you or do you just not care?

Where I live 4 wheelers are allowed on some roads (at the option of individual town, and mostly back roads). Way too many instances of idiots going waay too fast and/or with loud exhausts.
It's jerks like this that ruin it for everyone.

I assume you have never driven a motorcycle? Ever driven a motorcycle at night? Think clipping a deer is bad in a car, try it on a bike! Try cruising down the highway when someone starts merging in your lane or cuts you off, worse is a semi with someone behind you and you have to try to accelerate out of his way before you end up in a ditch. And you call me a jerk? Lol after a deer ran into my bike, multiple dodging of ratcoons and other critters and getting tired of jack azzes cutting me off or merging into the lane I'm cruising in, I bought loud pipes off Craigslist and had the bike rejetted for the pipes, best money I ever spent on my bike.

Every time you hear loud pipes you should be thankful you know where that cyclist is because bikes are hard to see for people I guess, I make sure I'm herd first.

Quads are illegal here on the roads, there much to unstable for road use.

I have been reading this and just need to comment. Hope my :2cents: is OK. There is no way CSP is going to bother you here if your in a blizzard driving with your flashers running. In my mind it helps the dummy's see you as they come up from behind to judge your speed. I cant remember how many times I had a pucker moment coming up on a slow vehicle and not realizing the closing speed - usually they are running without their light on either. Also 6 studded tires are what I run on my dully. Made a huge difference in safe handling on the ice. Its behavior is actually predictable now with a lot less tail wagging . This will be the first year without studs, so will not be driving it much if it snows. I put European studded tires on the wife's daily driver (escape) made by Nokia. Studs go all the way across the face, not just along the edge as most US makers do. But they have a lot of snow there too and seem to know a thing or too. Studs are a unique shape and tires come from the factory already studded. Hope this helps

I can agree with this if I understand your terminology correctly, if people travel at speed well under the speed limit, I prefer them to have hazards flashing to warn me especially in a heavy snow storm, I have a few choice words for people who run dangerously slow without them.

Sorry Cobber but you're beginning to lose it... especially when you make the claim highlighted above. Egon lives in Nova Scotia and gets just as intense weather as you do with your 'lake effect' snow.

As to your last sentence? C'mon. Someone putting their hazard lights (not 'emergency lights') on to warn others is a courtesy to others. I'd rather they warn me that they're purposely going slower under whatever circumstances they've encountered.

Here's another scenario that will happen here in a week or so. It's haying season and I'll be helping out, with my tractor, to bring it in. It's also prime tourist season and there are a lot of them about, taking in the beauty of this place. When I move between paddocks onto a public road, I will have my "blinkies" on, and my amber rotating 'whoop-whoop' light on, PLUS two SMV reflective triangles displayed (one behind my seat and my ballast box has one). The speed limit will be 60kph in that area. Am I wrong?

Later on I'll need to access a different set of paddocks that are 7kms away and to get there I'll need to travel on a 100kph 2-lane highway. I'll again have all of my lights flashing and rotating, whilst pulling over to let traffic behind me pass when it's safe to do so. Am I wrong?

Most of this will be during daylight hours but, if rain is expected, I'll be doing this a night too. Is this enough of an "excuse for flashing bright lights in other driver's eyes"?

This seems like a great reason to run my flashers every chance I get this year! I don't run them often but I just may now. They are my flashers I'll run them when I think I need to!

I generally run them when I pull a trailer and dumb people don't pass unless I do. Broad daylight, no snow in the middle of summer. Flashers say go around or get off my tail I'm going slower idiot!

You mean I'm supposed to break the Law??

I've no idea of your Snow Driving experiences and neither do you of mine!

Do you tweak the throttle when stopped to make sure it's still running.

Enough said.

Here we go with the loud pipes saves lives BS..
Been riding bikes since the early 70's and never fell for that one.
I like my bikes quiet. Way to many of those annoyingly loud bikes on the road around here IMO.
