Oil & Fuel Diesel in gas tank to make tractor pull harder.

A third valve opens lowering the compression ratio so that the engine can start and run on gas. I don't understand how the combustion chamber fills with gas/air mix etc. because I haven't taken the time to study it.

It still is surprising to me that the technology was available at that time to pull this off. The diesel side of the operation is down on power compared to the power of his (almost) matching 400 straight gas tractor

To measure the difference in "power" between diesel and gasoline they use BTUs.

Gasoline 114,000 BTU/Gal
Diesel 129,500 BTU/Gal

These very slightly with summer and winter blends along with other mods to lower emissions.

If you are still interested in or thinking adding gasoline to a diesel is a good idea for added power- don't forget diesel fuel is also used to lubricate injector pumps, injectors etc on its way to the combustion chamber.

Backwards thinking.

The thread was asking about adding diesel (more BTU) to gas. NOT the other way around.

Oops thx for the note- I cleaned up the post to be applicable to the topic.

I saw a young guy running a Jeep Cherokee on kerosene as a last ditch effort to make it to work. He said he was out of gas and money so his dad told him to put a couple gallons of kerosene in the tank.

I don't know what the actual gasoline to kerosene ratio in the tank was but I seen him leave work spitting and sputtering in a cloud of smoke. The next day he said he made it home, got some gas and all was well.

Some other ways to increase "power"-

Thinner motor oil- less resistance
Less motor oil- cranks won't splash in oil
Smooth tires- less rolling resistance
Remove alternator- less resistance at motor
Remove hydraulic pump- same as above
Oh and don't Forget the playing card!

So adding a shot of higher BTU fuel into a lesser would make it pull harder?

No. BTU's have nothing to do with adding more power in this instance.

I'm interested to hear the theory behind this statement- quite interesting

Anyone know anyone running a gas tractor in a tractor pull? I think we need to test this

In this instance, adding diesel to a gasoline powered engine would drop the octane (since diesel has an octane of 20-40.) When this happens you would get pre-ignition, spark knock, pinging whatever you want to call it. In order to combat the knock you would have to ****** the timing, thus reducing power. Either way you will lose power from the pre-ignition or retarding timing. A diesel and gasoline powered engine are two very different animals.

Thanks for expanding- makes sense. Read up a bit about the octane rating and it is significantly lower for diesel.
